Montreal has the best food hands-down, and Quebec's cuisine it's the closest thing we have to something unique. It's like French food but less pretentious. Quality wise, Tim Hortons is like breakfast-only McDonalds.

The episode of Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown set in Quebec made me want to move there.

As a northerner living in the south I can appreciate both, but...

I think most "northern cooking" is just borrowed French and Italian food, not that it's not amazing. I guess New England has their own distinctive foods (eg clam chowder and lobster roll, etc.)

The South invented BBQ, which is one of my very favorite things. And here in Texas we take Mexican food, double the amount of meat, remove the vegetables, and drown it in queso, which is also a very good time.

To be fair southern cooking has to be borrowed from somewhere too, unless all you eat is succotash and pemmican.

Variety Obesity though - can you really eat BBQ/grits/fried mayonnaise every day?

I'll admit it gets much more northern the further south you go, but I am in North Florida and it is very very southern. Pretty much the inside of the state most of the way down is pretty southern, minus the rich horse pockets around ocala and then between orlando and tampa.

FL has a healthy mix of both. I've got a few relatives there, and a few in Chattanooga, TN, and if you heard them speak you wouldn't be able to separate the two groups.

Drove through this part of the state during a roadie to Nola...it is very southern. No difference, as far as I could tell, from Alabama.

From Miami, and can definitely say its not Southern AT ALL.

However, I have to agree with Real and say that North Florida (upwards of Tampa) is pretty southern lol. I can't distinguish it from Georgia when driving through the state.

You can drive around parts of Florida and think it looks like Maine or Hawaii, that don't make it either.

Culturally there are some pockets but the State of Florida is so influenced by influx residents and their dependants and offspring. A native Floridian is more likely to be from NYC, Chicago, Trinidad or Chili

The food is mixed with more Cuban as you go Orlando south

Yeah there are jobs not tourist related in O town, but you can't ignore the large tourist influence
Jax is different but it's not Savannah or Atlanta
Tampa isn't turn of last century St Pete, it's s big melting pot city in itself. Sure you can go a few miles east and your in the Heart of Florida, but that's a mix of housing and farms with natural barriers and borders

Yes we did have a Gov sworn into office on a day with freezing temps, but Tallahassee is still more melting pot then Birmingham or Mobile

Then you hit the navy town at Pensacola and that's again melting pot
