Re: Stanford Law School Class of 2018
So I have no idea what is going on. I got an email saying my award letter is ready. I created a SUnet ID. I logged onto Axess, which only brings me back to the original log-in page and won't let me log on again. What am I supposed to do?

It can take up to 24 hours for the system to actually register your SUnet ID. If you just created it today, that could be your problem!Fred Norris wrote:So I have no idea what is going on. Thanks!! Thought that might be the problem. I assumed that because I was able to CREATE the Id, then it was registered. Didn't know it was a "two-step" process.radio1nowhere wrote:It can take up to 24 hours for the system to actually register your SUnet ID. Tends to be, from what I've seen last year. Stanford kids aren't a TLS-y bunch.zaetoroftheprotoss wrote:This thread is soooo quiet...
But here's an update from me: after countless emails, calls, and voicemails left at Stanford financial aid with no response (I was trying to let them know about a scholarship/deposit deadline I have coming up in less than 2 weeks) I finally spoke to a live person yesterday who promised me my award this week!

Makes me all the more inclined to attend. What's the word on housing? I have that nice, glossy pamphlet they sent out, but it's all a bit overwhelming. Why is a studio in Escondido so much cheaper than one in Munger?lc39 wrote:Tends to be, from what I've seen last year. Munger is right next to the law school but they're also newer/nicer units and I imagine people like them because of the built-in community you get from living with everyone you go to school with.Fred Norris wrote:Makes me all the more inclined to attend. I live in an EV mid-rise right now and our building is being remodeled right now (new kitchen appliances are coming in, so that's exciting). I would be very happy to remain in EV next year if I attend Stanford.
You should tour if you can, because IMO they are not worth the price difference if you're up for walking/biking (and the weather is nice so you should be).

Tacking on to this, the EV studios are much nicer than most of the other properties in EV. I lived in a Munger studio for 1 yr and an EV studio for 2 (I am a Stanford PhD student).lc39 wrote: Munger is right next to the law school but they're also newer/nicer units and I imagine people like them because of the built-in community you get from living with everyone you go to school with.

Munger generally has more social stuff going in EV (mostly due to the fact that EV is ~90% engineers and scientists), but it's not worth the price difference unless you're not particularly cost conscious.

i heard stanford is the most generous with aid among HYS, yet yale offered literally double what stanford did, based on the same information.
thus begin negotiations. i'll let you guys know how it goes.

In my experience, Yale = Stanford > Harvard. This translated into a much larger $ amount from S, but COL is super high compared to Y so it basically evened out.ballcaps wrote:+2everything_bagel wrote:+1radio1nowhere wrote:Got my award today.

Good luck with negotiations! Thought you were set on Y?

Yeah.... Stanford offered me a lot more, but when I looked at the amount I'd be financing after COL, it was within a few hundred dollars of each other. In my case, it didn't make sense to make any decision based on $$.lc39 wrote:In my experience, Yale = Stanford > Harvard. I'm not at ASW (had a work thing I couldn't move), but I sent my deposit in early last week. Looking forward to meeting some of you in the fall.

A bit late but deposited! I can't wait to meet everyone IRL (unless we already met at ASW in which case it'll be great to see you again)!

Not sure if anyone is still hanging out on this page, but when is everyone moving in? I'm trying to plan a short vacation before starting school and want to make sure I don't miss anything in the days leading up to the start of classes.

I think for on-campus housing we have to move in on 8/24zaetoroftheprotoss wrote:Not sure if anyone is still hanging out on this page, but when is everyone moving in?
