Depending on your skill, you can have a pretty decent time playing texas hold'm for a good while with less than $100buckiguy_sucks wrote:Whats like the minimum amount you can take to a casino and still have a good time? $100 play craps
Just have a budget for entertainment, your room, meals and entertainment
Gambling should be a separate part of your budget, and if you go home with the gambling envelope empty and you had a good time spending it, you have no losses
Vegas can be a great place easily, and with a bit of effort, an awesome vacation for a day or a week.
My better half and I got married in Vega at The Little White Wedding Chapel

The couple in front of us got married in their car in the drive up lane, but we went big time and went inside. You can have a Marilyn Monroe bridesmaid, Elvis best man, flowers, a toast, limo - the works. All very reasonably priced
Now, if I can only remember the name we used to get married in Vegas.

That's part of why penny slots are not a lot of fun of course
But you don't need to be a great player, just have some sense of what you're doing. I assume the same goes for other games that I don't play and thus can't comment on.

I take ~$200 - that's plenty to play blackjack at the cheap tables. Just don't go with people you don't trust (who will encourage you to take out more money, lend them money, etc).
Look up a blackjack chart and study, that's all you have to do.

I like blackjack. But have never played for money.
I wish they had card games like spoons, speed, rummy, and egyptian ratscrew at casinos. I could quit my day job.

I second the people on here saying learn to play craps. Fun and social game, and if you don't make dumb bets you can play for a while and come out near even or make a little if someone gets on a streak. It doesn't take long to learn on Wikipedia for the basic betting strategy and you can practice on a free online version to get the hang of it. Don't play slots, they r for chumps.

Just played $5 roulette with friends. I put down $20 and won $20, woooo. I am nowhere near competent enough at anything that could actually make money so the pointlessly low stakes and total randomness is fun.

Of course be prepared to lose. Blackjack gives you the best odds though and it's the easiest to understand. Players at the table will also help you (because they don't want you to fuck them up). That won't happen in poker. If you're a beginner, you get taken advantage of.OhBoyOhBortles wrote:edited to reflect my personal experiences in casinos.Kinky John wrote:I take ~$200 - that's plenty to playblackjackpoker at the cheap tables. I'm pretty bad at Vegas. I spent most of my first night here chatting about Infinite Jest and favorite behavioral economists.

Black Jack all day. Never been to Vegas, though. It's not hard to make a good amount playing Blackjack if you get some friends to fill the table and everyone play's by The Book. Of course, not everyone will win but overall the group usually ends up making money.

This is the best part about craps (other than the odds are actually fairly strong)--if you play the pass line you're rooting for everyone else, and when you're rolling everyone else is rooting for you. When the table gets hot and everyone is winning there's nothing better.downbeat14 wrote:I second the people on here saying learn to play craps.
