I think it depends a lot on the specifics of your situation. If you're really friendly with your boss, or want to maintain that relationship, then yeah, tell him/her earlier. But 2 weeks is all common courtesy really requires for most jobs. Everyone I work with already knows I'm leaving, but if I had a traditional boss-employee relationship to account for, I probably would have held off on telling them until 2-4 weeks before.CaptainJapan wrote:What's the angle on telling your coworkers you're leaving several months in advance? Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
As other people have said I think a lot of it depends on your situation. I got a LOR from my boss so she knew last fall already, and by now everyone in my work life knows and its not a problem. Grad school is one of those things that you know about months in advance so unless you have a specific reason to only give 2 weeks notice, I would think it's a bad look. If it's someone you want a reference from I'd give more notice. It probably also depends on what it will take to fill your role. Last place I left I made a reasonable timeline to hire my replacement and estimated it would take 1.5 months, so I gave them 6 weeks notice (now while they still didn't hire someone in 6 weeks, I did my part).CaptainJapan wrote:

I've lost all motivation to even do well in my classes. What even is the point of your last semester?

Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-iorits
Oh man. I actually wish I could check out more than I'm able to, but I work in media and a lot of my job is rapid-response so I sort of have to be on most of the time. But my hatred for my job just deepens as each day goes by. I'm planning on quitting the first week of July, then I'm going to Europe for 3 weeks. So yeah, I'm pretty resentful that I have to keep waking up every day and pretend I care about anything I'm doing.

IsThisForReal wrote:My boss had to have emergency appendix removal last week, so he's out till Thursday and now everyone is realizing how bad of an employee he actually is. Now I'm scrambling to fix his issues and everytime someone asks me a question all I can really say is "idk, he never included me in that discussion." The guys hasn't even contacted me since he left, meanwhile he's emailing tons of other people in the office, so I'm getting everything secondhand.
Sorry that was a bit of a rant. But I'm so ready to be done with this job.
Amen. I hear appendicitis may be contagious?
