There is most definitely chick-fil-a, though not super convenient. Every week or two FedSoc will have an event with free chick-fil-a. I think there's one in the undergrad dining hall too, but haven't investigated.pto1993 wrote: Pretty interesting speculation as to what is the reason for the Dillard season on the applicants page. Also my SO raised a very important question last night - do they have chic-fil-a in Charlottesville?
Also if you have the time and the inclination, have you got any apartment hunting related advice for 0L's ?
In terms of apartment hunting, it really depends on how much you want to spend, whether you have a car, and if your SO is coming with you.

You can survive without one if you live on Arlington or in Ivy, but yeah you're going to want a car.tincan678 wrote:Do you guys plan on having a car during law school? How hard is it to maintain a 2.3 Cumulative GPA? Does UVA stack sections or do anything in particular which might make maintaining a 2.3 Cumulative GPA especially difficult?

Re: UVA Class of 2018
I'm not sure what's prompting this question. Questions like this are usually asked when scholarship offers are conditional on maintaining a certain GPA, UVA (nor any other T14 school as far as I'm aware) offers conditional scholarships. Also, I'm pretty sure it's really, really difficult to get a GPA as low as 2.3 at UVA or any other T14 if you put forth any effort whatsoever. Most of the top schools have pretty generous curves where the lowest grade in the class will probably be a B- as long you studied something and wrote anything. I'd imagine even the absolute worst, unluckiest law student at UVA would have a difficult time getting a GPA below a 2.7.smile0751 wrote:How hard is it to maintain a 2.3 Cumulative GPA? Maintaining a 2.3 cumulative GPA is the stipulation on my UVA scholarship. Well that and maintaining "a standard of behavior characteristic of a prospective member of the legal profession."thatsnotmyname wrote:I'm not sure what's prompting this question. I see, well 2.3 is not a serious stipulation. You would basically be flunking out if you had a GPA below 2.3 at UVA.smile0751 wrote:Maintaining a 2.3 cumulative GPA is the stipulation on my UVA scholarship. Take this with a grain of salt, but I second this. I think the stip is so you don't go and just not put in any effort whatsoever.thatsnotmyname wrote:I see, well 2.3 is not a serious stipulation. 2.3 = good standing. it is nowhere near median. if you have below a 2.3 you're failing out anyway, and I'm guessing that happens to basically nobody

Re: UVA Class of 2018
Median at UVA is a 3.30 GPA (or a B+). A 3.00 GPA puts you at about the bottom 10% of the class after 1L. If you had a 2.50 GPA at the end of 1L, you would likely be the lowest ranked person in the whole class. Like, #300/300. If you get lower than a 2.30 at the end of 1L, then yeah you should probably lose your scholarship because it means you probably submitted exams consisting entirely of MS Word clip art for a full year.
It's a good standing stip. UVA isn't a TTTT brah.

Re: UVA Class of 2018
I live on Arlington and did not have a car for 1L or Fall 2L. I have a car now and I am so glad I got one. It's already been more useful than I could have imagined. I would definitely bring a car if you have one or can get one.North wrote:You can survive without one if you live on Arlington or in Ivy, but yeah you're going to want a car.tincan678 wrote:Do you guys plan on having a car during law school? Also, in regard to ASW events: current students (typically the 1Ls) will serve as student hosts. Most student hosts will invite you to their bar review pregames on Thursday night and will take you out to bar review. That's another option than what is listed in the poll above. I would take bar review over bowling for what it's worth. If you really want to get a sense of the culture here, you have to see how students interact with each other outside of school. If you're not the bar/drinking/socializing in party atmosphere type then bowling might be a better choice. Not everyone at UVA parties (I would say it's about 60% partying), but I wanted to throw out the bar review option in case the "partiers" wanted to see that side of UVA while they're here.
