Re: What the 1L am I doing?
Is it bad that Civ Pro is my favorite because we have made it fewer than 40 pages into the casebook?

I still brief mine except in con law. If I wasn't briefing cases I have no idea what else I'd be doing at this point other than reading.unsweetened wrote:Worstest![]()

Re: What the 1L am I doing?
I'm still briefing all of mine. I'm still too nervous about my mind going blank during a cold call to not do it. Plus, it's easier for me to refresh before class if I have all of the relevant info in front of me.

Re: What the 1L am I doing?
Yah. I don't really know why I wouldn't. Read case, spend 5 min typing up a brief. Helps so I don't look dumb in class (sometime I still do). But the 5min it takes for me to make it doesn't seem like a big deal.unsweetened wrote: Is anyone still doing full case briefs anymore?

Re: What the 1L am I doing?
I'm finding myself jotting down a few bullet points, mainly the rule and holding. Some of my professors make cold calling pretty easy and others make everyone look like a dumbass, so I think it's a wash.

Re: What the 1L am I doing?
Citing Case Names and Citing Cases are not the same thing. All my profs wanted you to cite cases. All of them also said the name was unimportant if you clearly identified the case. Knowing the name, though, allows you to cite the case with one or two words rather than describing the case at length, e.g. "Hadley" vs "the case on incidental damages for late delivery of the drive shaft."Companion Cube wrote:For my 1L the reverse was true. Only 1 professor explicitly said that they didn't give points for citing cases. For all others it was absolutely required to make a good grade. Btw I'm sure this is understood here, but you don't get (many) points for saying rule X, from case Y. You get points for reasoning by analogy: this set of facts is [like/different from] that case because XYZ. Therefore the court should rule ____WokeUpInACar wrote:You're fine. 95% of professors don't give a shit about citing case names on exams. Do confirm that your prof isn't one of the 5% though.buckiguy_sucks wrote:Non 1Ls ITT:
I'm finding I have little problem with remembering rules but am basically not at all remembering which case they are from when the professor asks in class discussion. Is this something I will need to memorize for exams anyway so should just start? Obviously big cases international shoe etc are no problem but the smaller points I pretty much never remember the case

Since y'all are already discussing what outlines should look like, I'll post this link here. Not saying these are perfect, but they got me through plenty well.

Is it a partner-track associate? If so, they could work on building a "permanent network."Hikkomorist wrote:But they keep harping on networking.legit wrote:You swiped right on a guy who turns out to be an associate...remove?

been experimenting with reading ahead. not really noticing much diff. if anything, it's even more time consuming because i gotta read all my shit again briefly before classes to refresh my memory.

Re: What the 1L am I doing?
I still essentially brief although extremely short hand in word. I basically only underline/make limited notes in my CB and take like 5 mins to write down what I read. Then, I make sure to compare it to commercial briefs (to make sure I didn't f### up the rule). Helps retain facts better IMO, plus I can spit answers out a little faster when cold calling getting an essentially worthless ego boost.
