Also, actual conversation with school in question, mid October:
usn26: "Hi, good to see you again. I've decided that your school is really the best place for me, so I'm going to apply early decision."
adcomm: "You know what, don't. I'll write down that you said that, but you keep your options open."
usn26: "Umm, okay."

8 months on the waitlist later, school in question is found to have one of the highest ED bumps going. Argh.
