It's based on how many posts on TLS you have

I thought it was based on how many dumb questions you asked during ASW

Yes, section assignments are random. There has actually been an interesting discussion about that on campus because every year they seem to be fairly even in terms of minority group representation (race, gender, sexual orientation, etc.). However, to my knowledge the administration still maintains that they are randomly assigned and the fact that they end up even is just due to normal statistical distribution, which is totally plausible given the size of the entering class.

They have historically been assigned around August 8.

fwiw I don't know that it's true that it's evenly distributed. Section 1 this year had ~8 LGBT to Section 5's ~4. Section 5 also had a pretty high number of orthodox Jews, and the only two 1Ls from an undergrad that hasn't sent anyone to HLS since 2009.

Interesting. I guess the flip side to that is those are both things HLS doesn't officially record (per NALP).

Right, and the LGBT one is probably more random than others, since it's pretty much only discernible beforehand via resumes that happen to reflect it.

Yeah it's just a form that we'll get sometime this summer. I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing anything. :)

And classes/syllabi trickle in the week after? (Based on skimming last year's forum.) It'd be nice to know my schedule for planning (and professors for nerdy gleefulness) but I guess we have class every day anyway.

PS new poster, longtime lurker... thank you for the useful information and sometimes insanity

I'll be working hard to get you class info (including required books and how not to pay full price for them) with course outlines that week. I know how neurotic 1Ls are.

The actual schedules are not my area, but if I get my hands on them before you do I'll put them out.

ChemEng1642 wrote: I actually know the answer to this. I asked the office and got this (2 days ago):

Thanks for your message. If you do not want the federal Stafford loan, please complete and submit the HLS Loan Adjustment-Cancellation form on the following link to our website:

https://hls.harvard.edu/dept/sfs/financ ... -web-form/

Once that has been received by our office, we will cancel the loan and remove it from your aid package so the funds will no longer be reflect as anticipated aid on your student billing account. You should do this as soon as possible (this week) so your bill will be accurate.

If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Have a great day.
Did you/anyone get an email confirmation after doing this? Specifically lowering it.
