We can do it! It's exciting to know other PI people are on board

I think that's a common attitude here. Most students in general are a little insulated from the TLS doom-and-gloom. Helps that almost everyone here gets something through OCI if they want it. Not quite everyone, but it feels like it.sheishkabob wrote:So after going to the ASW, it seemed like the majority of students I spoke with (both current students and prospective students) were totally chill with paying sticker/having little-to-no aid. The current students were more adamant about it "being worth it," than I would have thought, where the majority said they weren't stressed about loans whatsoever. Literally 7/10 2 and 3Ls that I spoke with said they got almost no aid and had turned down substantially larger offers from other schools...thoughts on this? Did I just meet a weird sample?

Yeah, I'll probably end up doing this if I don't hear today. I didn't want to be annoying since they clearly state that they won't be reviewing appeals until the end of the month and will only try to meet earlier deadlines.Wahrheit wrote:Call them.ms2014 wrote:I submitted my request for a review of my financial aid in mid-March. I know that they make no promises about getting back to you before your scholarship deadlines, but the first one I listed on my form is tomorrow. Has anyone with an earlier scholarship deadline heard back about a financial aid appeal?
Chicago puts you on a pretty damn good place and just from conversations w/ 2L-3Ls at other schools (lower t14s or w/e), there does seem to be a placement difference but I don't really know how you quantify it. IMO people too nonchalant about debt levels and it's easy to think it's not that much until you see what your actual monthly payment is.sheishkabob wrote:So after going to the ASW, it seemed like the majority of students I spoke with (both current students and prospective students) were totally chill with paying sticker/having little-to-no aid. Agreed. Even though 7/10 2 and 3Ls don't mind (near)sticker, that doesn't mean it's a good idea. They're going to have to pay nearly $2k/month for ten years. I don't see how that's a good idea. (Or live like a pauper for 3-5 years to pay down aggressively, sacrificing your soul to biglaw).skers wrote:Chicago puts you on a pretty damn good place and just from conversations w/ 2L-3Ls at other schools (lower t14s or w/e), there does seem to be a placement difference but I don't really know how you quantify it. I think you met a self-selecting sample. People with large amounts of aid (Ruby, 30K+) are usually hesitant to divulge that information.sheishkabob wrote:So after going to the ASW, it seemed like the majority of students I spoke with (both current students and prospective students) were totally chill with paying sticker/having little-to-no aid. Exactly. And it wasn't like they were going out of their way to divulge that info to me, it was more like I pressed them for some context. And then over drinks at the bar thing on Friday night, people were more relaxed to talk about it with me and provide some insight to my own decision-making process. The people who got a lot of aid weren't like "I got a Ruby," they just mentioned that they got a good amount of aid which made it even more worth it. But TLS has this mentality that taking on huge debt for any school is not worth it whatsoever, which was pretty different than the vibe I got from ChicagoWahrheit wrote:This. But TLS is also a self-selecting sample, so.WheninLaw wrote:I think you met a self-selecting sample.
