Bar Study Guideline

Post by bdadon » Wed Jun 06, 2018 2:58 pm

I know that people have been asking so many questions all over this thread. However, I just need to know exactly what I should be doing to pass this damn bar.

I am taking Barbri, and I bought critical pass. I also have a Kaplan book with 1200 MBE questions. What I want to know is what I should and should not be doing. For instance, I have been trying to outline but I feel like it takes up most of my time. However, I am having difficulty memorizing and actually understanding the material. What are some things people did or are doing now?

My schedule is basically lecture in the morning and about 30-40 MBE questions a day. What should I be doing? Starting to get anxiety. Thanks!

As you said, there are lots of advice in other threads here, so definitely check 'em out if you haven't already.

IMO, it's a bit too early to be worrying about memorizing or still not understanding the material. I passed the Feb '18 CA bar exam, and I was still memorizing and learning concepts until D-Day. Getting overwhelmed by things like this or whether or not I had all the supplements I needed (or felt so) only contributed to wasting my time during the multiple times I failed the exam. Take a deep breath and realize almost everyone is in the same boat!

Next, the method of studying (Barbri vs. self-studying) doesn't matter if you're just going through the motions and approaching tasks as little more than things to check off your daily to-do list. I wrote this recently, but there's a difference between 8 hours of lectures + outlining versus 8 hours of doing 30-50 MBEs (and review) + 2-3 essays (and review).

Just to get specific here, I'm not going to say outlining is per se useless, but there's a big difference between outlining summaries of rules/law and actually seeing applications of law in MBE fact patterns. Whenever study time was of the essence, I erred towards doing actual problems than outlining/flash carding/reading.
