Thought Civ Pro was tough on this test, several unnecessarily technical/kinda weird questions; 78% total though so happy overall

Right there on the decline. 71% on PT1, 51% this time.

Re: THEMIS JULY 2018 - DISCUSSION
Thank you for the general encouragement. My scores were the same both times, and both times were well below the average. Trying to stay positive, but it’s getting harder every day.RareExports wrote:I'll try to alleviate some stress.
First, a month left is plenty of time. That's nearly half of the standard bar prep schedule still remaining.
Second, the average score on this practice test was roughly the same as the first practice test. It is normal not to improve on the second test.
Third, the subjects tested on the second practice test are different than those tested on the first practice test. To some extent it's an apples-to-oranges comparison.

If the average stayed the same from PT 1 to PT 2, but many people on this site (and presumably many others) experienced a fairly large decline in scores... I wonder who is now bringing up the average? Like who scores 50% on the first test and is getting 70% on this one?

As I'm going through the answers, apparently people who focused studying on obscure Civ Pro rulessmile0751 wrote:If the average stayed the same from PT 1 to PT 2, but many people on this site (and presumably many others) experienced a fairly large decline in scores... Re: THEMIS JULY 2018 - DISCUSSION
I scored 60% on PT 1 and 69% on PT 2.
I agree with everyone who is saying that it totally depends on the subjects you happen to be strongest at. When I break down my PT 2 score by sub-topic they vary wildly, from 33% right on Civ Pro to 100% right on evidence, but I just happened to also be decently strong in Crim Law and Crim Pro.

It's annoying to be continually told in the lectures to just focus on "minimal competence," only to take these exams and be presented with the most obscure civ pro rules and constitutional principles. I hate this.
People who've already taken the Bar: are the MBE questions typically really general?

Texas here.
So we don't have lectures for Bankruptcy or Tax (but my Barbri friends say they do have lectures for them). Read the outlines for them but got absolutely nothing from it.
Should I just not even expend effort on them, since they're not independent essay topics?

Got a 55% on PT 2. The question sets are all over the board. The last 17 questions on each subject are crazy easy. I am dumb and got like 75% on those. A few of the last questions sets on the individual subjects in my opinion were hard. Like number 5 I think.

71% on the second one, 69% on the first, so feeling ok about it. Worst subject were civ pro (10/15 correct) and con law (8/13 correct), while on the practice question sets I tend to do better on both than I do on crim & crim pro.

60% on PT1 and 64% PT2 with highest score being Civ Pro.
Not surprised - rote memorization of rules is easier for me. I get in my head with Contracts and Property and find myself arguing for why one answer might be a better choice than another.

Getting frustrated with MBE PQs missing facts or making assumptions. I can't tell if it's bad question writing or the real MBE questions are just like this

I agree Civ pro is killing me as well. %71 PT1 and %64 PT2. Other than evidence, all of my essays were below the average. I just couldn't manage the memorize so many info at once. Open for any suggestions as to how to memorize

THIS. There was a conlaw Q about challenging an immigration statute based on father vs mother and legitimacy of the child...it never said whether father resided within US, whether child was in US, whether child was in US. One answer was about standing but it was impossible to tell from the facts whether the father or child had standing.jetsetter2000 wrote:Getting frustrated with MBE PQs missing facts or making assumptions. Re: THEMIS JULY 2018 - DISCUSSION
With less than one month until the California (for me) Bar Exam, I have many rants!
1. MEMORIZING IS THE WORST!!!
I am doing my best to condense my outlines to something more manageable. So far, that is about 15 pages PER TOPIC. How can that fit in my head???
2. THE LECTURERS - SOME ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS
I really liked the property, contract, and the criminal law lecturers. I am now relying exclusively on Professor Ide Don to get me through these essays. The Civil Procedure and Constitutional Law guy looks a little like John Boehner, but was a good lecturer. One lady looked like Sweet Dee. Just my observations.
3. WORRIED I WON'T PASS - Which is all of our worries. But I hope my following the Themis plan will help me get there.
Studying for this beast gets lonely and I thank you for listening to my rant.

Re: THEMIS JULY 2018 - DISCUSSION
I am way behind and starting on Con Law right now. Wow am I feeling awful now. I was freaking out about remembering shit before but after reading a couple of the con law essays I am freaking out properly...
Essays should be open book. When would we ever not have access to the law in practice? This is just cruel.
Also, I wish there were better-condensed outlines available for each topic. The long ones are unnecessary, the FRO won't be good enough for the essays. If there were good outlines I'd be less freaked out. I can't believe after so many years there aren't better resources.

It's a mix. I was looking through the Emanuel Strategies and Tactics for MBE Book (which uses all licensed MBE questions) and I had seen a vast majority of the questions already in Themis.dabigchina wrote:I think it's a mix.itsyerboythundercat wrote:uh dumb question but is Themis actual MBE questions or Themis creations?
