Recs for UBE Bar Prep for a Retaker
Hi TLS Universe,
I missed NY's UBE passing score by 5 points so I will be retaking it in July.
Do you have recommendations for bar prep companies that are good for people who are working and maybe have tutors I can hire on weekends? I live in Manhattan if that is helpful. I have my Barbri stuff so my plan right now is to keep drilling my outlines but I would like more structure from a program. Please comment with or PM with recs.
Thank you!

In what parts of the UBE did you have trouble? Knowing that would help in determining what bar prep materials to get.

Is Barbri not letting you use the course again since you were not successful? I know themis does that. I figured most would if you completed so much of the course.

You are very close to passing so what you might need is to take the re-taker course with the company you used last time but supplement with a company like Adaptibar or Zipbar. You need to work through questions that you didn't work through last time, that is extremely important!

I have a recommendation. Literally the first thing you need to do in order is this. 1) Find every single released UBE essay. Yes every single one! Put them by category in individual folders. Go the the subject that you are most comfortable with first, lets say contracts and issue spot every single essay. Have someone else look at the model answers and only extract the issues out and give them to you. 2)Now that you know all the issues tested in every single contract essay go through the big contracts outline and summarize in your own handwritten outline. Each issue tested obviously has specific rules that apply- write down each rule in the contracts binder next to the corresponding essay! Do this for all of the MEE subjects and then do the MBE prep whether it be adaptibar , themis or barbri. By the time you are done MBE prep which i recommend to be at least 250 questions per subject, you will be locked in. Do 10-18 MPTs TIMED and you will crush the exam.S.as.in.Snake wrote:Hi TLS Universe,

That is some truly excellent advice.PoliLaw wrote:I have a recommendation. Literally the first thing you need to do in order is this. 1) Find every single released UBE essay. Yes every single one! Re: Recs for UBE Bar Prep for a Retaker
I am also looking for some advice as a re-taker, I failed the UBE in South Carolina by 3 points and had a 152.6 MBE scaled score.
First, I am stuck on what to do materials-wise. I still have all of my BARBRI stuff but that clearly didn't cut it for me last time so I am thinking about shelling out for Adaptibar. Any thoughts on Adaptibar are welcome.
Second, I am assuming my weakest (or weaker) spot is either the MPT or the MEE. I know I knocked at least two of the MEEs WAY out of the park (Family Law and Contracts) so now I am concerned that I have no way to know if I, (a) just didn't study the rules enough or, (b) I completely suck at writing essay answers the way that my bar examiners would like them written.
Last, I saw someone mention earlier that gathering all the released UBE-MEE questions you can and going through them methodically may be a good strategy but can someone point me in the direction of where to find these questions? Are they on NCBE? Sorry I sound like such a newb, I totally fell hook, line, and sinker for the whole "just do your BARBRI busywork like everyone else and you will pass!" B.S.
I so appreciate anyone who has any advice or thoughts on this!

156 is a solid MBE score!
Here's where you'll find free MEE's:

Re: Recs for UBE Bar Prep for a Retaker
If you are looking for a tutor in the NYC area, I highly recommend Professor Lakin. He used to write and grade bar exam essays so he really understands what you should write to maximize your points based on the way the essays are graded. Just knowing the mechanics behind the grading process was extremely helpful, and his methodology for attacking the essays made the essays much less daunting (I could hear his voice echoing the steps during the bar exam haha). I used Themis in addition to working with him and my graded essay scores went up dramatically afterwards and I passed the NY Bar. http://lakinbarexamtutor.webs.com/.
I also highly recommend the PMBR three day course and Emmanuel's Strategies and Tactics for the MBE. Those both helped me to better understand the structure of the questions and how to approach them. The PMBR/Kaplan questions are really hard, but they really do make sure you know your stuff.
