Final Practice MBE Score VS Actual MBE Scaled Score (if released)
Hey folks -
I see scattered posts about this in various bar prep threads, but I think it might be easier if it was consolidated. If you'd like to participate, please post:
(1) YOUR SCORE ON THE LAST PRACTICE MBE YOU TOOK
(2) YOUR ACTUAL MBE SCALED SCORE (IF REPORTED, OR JUST "PASSED" IF NOT REPORTED)
(3) WHICH BAR PREP YOU USED
I understand that your last practice test will be a raw score and your actual MBE will be scaled, so we're comparing apples and oranges, but that shouldn't matter since the scaling should be constant across the group.
In some of the other threads, I'm seeing people with 20-30 point swings in a positive direction. That could mean that the actual test was easier than the practice exams OR it could mean that the scaling bump is huge.
Thanks for participating!

Re: Final Practice MBE Score VS Actual MBE Scaled Score (if released)
Someone put together a spreadsheet in a previous year:

Perhaps someone who is not as technologically challenged as I am could do something like this for the July 2017 bar administration.

Re: Final Practice MBE Score VS Actual MBE Scaled Score (if released)
Posting so I will remember when I get my results, but 151 raw on the Themis Simulated MBE and 75 on the last 100 set. Felt good about morning but afternoon session was rough. Also did poorly (approx 60%-65%) on MBE PQ Sessions 18-20 and they seemed like they got way trickier. Completed 95% of Themis.

If someone knows how to do a google doc, that would be awesome.

Whoops, here we go. I based the fields roughly off the old one and added in a ticker for how many people report passing using particular study materials (right now since I'm super lazy you have the choice of "Barbri," "Kaplan," "Themis" and "Self" for self-study). I can add more stats/etc. later, just need some time to get back up to speed with the formulas. Feel free to replace the example rows with your own data.

No worries!
Squiggle I took a look at the older spreadsheets and it looks like whoever made them was entering in a lot of stuff manually, so I dunno that there's much I can crib from them. When I have more time I'll work on tracking when people enter multiple options for what study materials they used; the wildcard symbol's not working in my formulas and I don't remember enough about spreadsheets to know why, lol.

I have updated the spreadsheet with reports from the Barbri and the Kaplan Official July 2017 threads.
The average bump is still pretty substantial.
Sweet hope...

No problem; I'd just ask that you leave the columns as they are because all the stats are formula-based and most of them won't work if the columns are changed too much.
ETA: You can add new columns to the right of the last one, or just let me know if you want certain stats. I moved everything around so the formulas will work again.

Practice MBE: 136
Final Scaled MBE: 159
I used Themis. I think they prepped us well. Would definitely recommend for the materials and the price.

Unfortunately, NC doesn't tell you but I had a 137 raw with Barbri and I passed.

So since nobody has ventured to ask, here we go: is there anyone who did well on the sim (ie 125+ on barbri) and didn’t do so well on the MBE?

Re: Final Practice MBE Score VS Actual MBE Scaled Score (if released)
Well. Per the data collected over the previous 2 years, only 1 or 2 individuals who got a 120+ on the barbri sim (I don’t know about the other bar programs) didn’t do noticeably better on the mbe. That sounds wayyyyyy too good to be true so I’m wondering if others would be brave enough to give us more data points.dans1006 wrote:Great question.Thrive wrote:So since nobody has ventured to ask, here we go: is there anyone who did well on the sim (ie 125+ on barbri) and didn’t do so well on the MBE?

Re: Final Practice MBE Score VS Actual MBE Scaled Score (if released)
I almost certainly will attain this. Scored a 156 on the simulated MBE and was hitting about 65-77% on the final few sets of 100 Barbri provided. I can promise you I did not do that well on the actual thing and am still pretty sure I bombed.Thrive wrote:So since nobody has ventured to ask, here we go: is there anyone who did well on the sim (ie 125+ on barbri) and didn’t do so well on the MBE?

Going to venture out and say that it comes down to percentiles if you exclude the mbe scale. Getting a 120 on the barbri sim probably puts you in the middle of all barbri takers, who tend to pass at higher rates than non barbri takers. Thus, you're probably going to get at least in the middle of the pack on the actual MBE. Median score on the real thing is around a 140 or so.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
