NY Pro Bono Requirement
Hi guys, just wondering if manning a hotline that takes down client info and transfers calls would qualify as NY pro bono. I'm volunteering at a nonprofit that helps low income immigrants and is supervised by an attorney. Not sure if there's enough 'legal work' in there to qualify.

The FAQs they put out about the rule (found here: https://www.nycourts.gov/attorneys/prob ... ission.pdf) say that the standard is that the work " must involve the use of legal skills and law-related activities that are appropriate for lawyers-in-training not yet admitted
to practice"
I would say if you're assisting with the provision of legal services through intake it would qualify because one of the examples is client interview and investigation. Based on the FAQs it seems they are mostly worried about the distinction between general community service and work which is truly helping provide legal services.
But you should talk to either career services or the C&F people at the department you're looking to be admitted to.

If all you're doing is general admin assistant stuff.... no. The way you described it makes it sound like it's admin work that happens to be in a legal setting rather than any work that actually requires legal skills.
