Illinois Bar Exam Appeal: Is it possible?

Post by GDbarexam » Tue Oct 04, 2016 9:24 pm

I received a 265. In IL you need a 266. I didn't even think they would honestly give someone a 265. My coworkers and I have joked with each other "what if you missed by one point!? Omgggg etc. etc." Well of course it happened to me. IL also sends about 10 million statements with your fail letter stating you cannot appeal and the board will not entertain regrading or any other kind of relief. I emailed my processor asking if anyone has ever tried to overturn their score. Her reply verbatim: "You can write a complaint/letter to the IL Supreme Court. But I will tell you they will not entertain such a request. Kind regards." I am ready to move on and kill this test the next time but I want to explore every avenue. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I've read on here somewhere that you can ask to have your MBE hand scored. Not sure what advantage that gives you, if any, but it is a viable shot in the dark.

Let me begin by saying how awful of a situation you are in. That really sucks. I'm not trying to make you feel worse, just saying man I couldn't imagine missing it by one point. That being said, I have heard of other people exploring their options as far as "appealing" their scores to no avail. I think the board of examiners are pretty hard and fast in the "no appeals/re-grading" rule. I would say moving forward if you want to write the letter then write it but I wouldn't expect much. You are probably better off taking a breather and then starting again for Feb. I know this sucks. However, if you think about it, you were so close to passing you can basically just make sure you hit your weakest scoring area(s) hardest and know you'll kill it next time around. Whatever you decide to do just know I wish you all the best.

I have followed so many forums and the amount of support from everyone seriously means so much. Thankful the law community still has many people who are willing to be there for their colleagues. I'm definitely not getting my hopes up with writing the letter and am currently planning to retake the bar in Feb. Still, the support and advice is uplifting. So thank you.
