Looking for Learning Materials

Post by Z-man » Thu Jun 30, 2016 11:34 pm

Hello all,

I am looking for learning materials for the bar exam. I will be taking the NY exam in February but NY is now UBE.

I'm not looking for practice questions at this point, although they would be helpful too.

I have an outline that someone gave me from 3 years ago. It's helpful a bit, but she wrote the outline based off of learning materials, as in the actual law.

Since I am a foreign lawyer, I need to learn the law on which the exam is based.

Can anyone recommend a good book I can buy that teaches the LAW on the bar exam, as opposed to just practice questions?

Even though the NY bar exam is different now than it was last year, I think an older book to learn the law is fine too. I don't think constitutional law, contracts or family changed much in the last year

Thank you for all your help and good luck to those taking the exam in a few weeks

I'm not sure what kind of book you are looking for.

It sounds like you want the Barbri books (IMO).

The CMR book will give you outlines for all the bar tested subjects in your state (I'm in CA, but I imagine it must be similar for the UBE). The outlines will have the law that will be tested on the bar exam.

In addition, there were also longer outline books that went a little more in-depth into each particular subject that would be tested on the bar.

The best time to purchase the Barbri books for your jurisdiction would probably be after the bar exam when people are looking to sell them, or after the results come out (in November). People who pass the exam are more likely to want to get rid of those books (I know I gave my books away because I wanted them out of my house!)

CMR - look for the Convisor Mini Review on eBay if you aren't registered for Barbri. There's also Critical Pass flash cards (referral link with discount code - http://criticalpass.refr.cc/WXNZSR4) which are like a CMR in flash card format (but only for MBE topics).
