Re: PA/NJ July 2016 Bar Exam Hangout
When I first started, I really liked the specificity of the PA essay questions, whereas I hated the open-endedness of the NJ ones. Now I'm on the other side; I hate that you're either right or wrong in PA, and I like that NJ lets you explore the legal options and come to your own conclusions.

I'm the opposite. I hate NJ essays. I like that PA lets you know exactly what they're looking for. With NJ you have to throw the whole kitchen sink into the essaysFivedham wrote:When I first started, I really liked the specificity of the PA essay questions, whereas I hated the open-endedness of the NJ ones. I'm fine with kitchen-sinking it if it gets me points. PA leaves the door open for you getting screwed out of points if you come to a different conclusion on something that may even be subjective, like a FRE 403 determination.PhillyLawGirl2015 wrote:I'm the opposite. The Jersey essays are hard but predictable. With the exception of property, all of them are doable. You can do the torts and crim essays half drunk...PhillyLawGirl2015 wrote:I'm the opposite. Although the characters change, the fact patterns basically repeat themselves. I passed Jersey last July by literally going over every NJ essay since the year 2000 (I got a book on Amazon full of old NJ essays). I literally regurgitated the answers of past exams. And NJ only covers 7 subjects. And like the previous poster said, most of the Jersey essays are open-ended, meaning you can bullshit your answer if you're stuck (there are a few subjects like Evidence where there's a right or wrong answer and you have to get that answer to get the points). You can forget a whole bunch of issues and still get a 5 on most of the Jersey subjects. Of course, you have to nail the main issues.
The Jersey bar is basically a rote memorization exam. It's not like NY where you don't know what's coming and you have to answer the fact pattern in a specific manner.

Booked hotels today. Oh man, that three hour drive from York to Atlantic City is gonna suck. I imagine I'm just gonna collapse once I get to the AC hotel.

So PA has never actually tested on DUI before, right?

Right. I think it would be reallyyyyyyy hard to test though so I don't see it coming up in the future.bulinus wrote:So PA has never actually tested on DUI before, right?

Re: PA/NJ July 2016 Bar Exam Hangout
Not sure where else to ask about this, but for the NJ bar app, I'm not sure how to approach the employment section. From college and earlier I just worked at random pizza places where I was usually paid cash, and I can only vaguely remember the dates.
Do you think I even need to list places where I was paid cash? I feel like it's dishonest to just say I didn't work those years but also the NJ app is annoying as fuck.

Does NJ have a breakdown of past bar exams with highest unsuccessful MBE applicant, etc, as PA does?
