CA MPRE prep
I've been so focused on the CA Bar, that I totally neglected the MPRE
Can anyone give me an idea of:
1) how hard it is to pass with the requisite 86%
2) what sort of prep/materials you used in order to successfully pass
3) what type of schedule you had/how much time you had to devote to pass
Thanks a million!

Re: CA MPRE prep
For some reason I thought CA MPRE was above 90 required. Barbri has free MPRE lectures. I studied for approximately 4 days. It's a lighter version of PR.

1. The 86 is not the %. It's just a score. I actually earned an 86 (needed 85 for Arizona).
2. Some people say the MPRE isn't a big deal. I passed the MPE a heck of a lot closer than I passed the bar exam. I read a Themis Outline and did one practice exam.
3. I took about 2 weeks and prepared about 60-90 minutes a night. It's a tricky little exam. Don't take it lightly. If I had to do it again, I would have used online or hard copy materials through Barbri.
Good luck!

You're 100% right in that I would hate to fumble at the 10 yard line....or some other sports analogy if that doesn't make sense.soj wrote:If you are in law school, you should be able to get a free MPRE prep book from any of the major bar prep companies. Going through one of those (in addition to any free prep videos the company might put out) is more than sufficient. Many have gotten away with less, but a couple hours of overkill won't kill you, especially since having to retake would be a big hassle.
I'm out of law school -- I'll see if I can find a recent Barbri/Kaplan one online. I'll look for the video too.
Thank you

Re: CA MPRE prep
Do the Barbri course. 10 hours of studying is enough for most people, I did 15 hours to play it safe and like most people here, passed with flying colors.

not hard but the exam is not as easy as some people make it out to be. the questions can be pretty tricky.
2) what sort of prep/materials you used in order to successfully pass
i scored >100 using the free barbri materials. just sign up on their website (don't even have to buy anything or commit to buying anything; just create a user id and password).
3) what type of schedule you had/how much time you had to devote to pass
i probably spent around 20 hours total. make sure you spend a good amount of time doing the barbri practice questions. i think the hardest part of the exam is choosing between two potential answers that are really close to being the correct answer, and going through practice questions gets you used to the types of choices that you have to make.

Re: CA MPRE prep

Not hard if you put in a little time beforehand.
2) what sort of prep/materials you used in order to successfully pass
I used the free Barbri prep materials. I listened to the MPRE lecture with Chemerinsky and filled out the outline during the lecture. I then did 2-3 Barbri practice tests. There are only so many ways to be tested on the material. The same fact patterns and types of questions that you see on practice questions WILL be on the exam.
3) what type of schedule you had/how much time you had to devote to pass
I studied for 3-4 days: First day listened to the lecture. Second and third (and possibly 4th) I did the practice tests and went over why the answer was right and the others were wrong. This is ALL you have to do. Like I mentioned earlier, the same questions and fact patterns will be on the actual MPRE and since you have already seen them, you will know the answer before looking at the choices.
I only looked at the conviser / ethics outline to go over Sarbanes-Oxley. I would recommend the same thing. If you do the above you will pass easily. I scored 120+ and was done an hour early.

Re: CA MPRE prep
I think Kaplan also has a free online MPRE course with a downloadable PDF version of the book available (in case you don't want to lug around the book when studying on the go).soj wrote:If you are in law school, you should be able to get a free MPRE prep book from any of the major bar prep companies.
