Themis Bar Review Hangout - July 2016
Hey all - making this post for those using Themis for the 2016 Bar Exam. I'll be taking it in MA. Figured we could all help each other pass the exam.

Are people actually reading the outlines before lectures? or just diving into lectures?

Re: Themis Bar Review Hangout - July 2016
I took Wills and CrimPro this past semester, and looked at the outlines in connection with reviewing for those courses. From that experience, I think reading through the outlines before getting into the lectures may be helpful with material that I'm trying to relearn (e.g. 1L courses), but probably won't be as helpful on material that I'm learning for the first time.AlanShore wrote:Are people actually reading the outlines before lectures? or just diving into lectures?

Checking in, taking IL. I'm reading the outlines first because, knowing myself, I'll pay sparse attention to the lectures if I don't read first.AlanShore wrote:Are people actually reading the outlines before lectures? or just diving into lectures?

Re: Themis Bar Review Hangout - July 2016
Checking in... Taking CA this summer.
I like reading the outline and then re-hearing it on the lecture [listen on 1.5X or 2X if you're very familiar]. I figure it helps with retention and memory triggering [hearing it after reading it]...
I am a bit torn on the "review the handout" instruction bit... I wish there was MBE q's right away then I could 'review' more effectively. Just feeling like my 'reviewing' isn't that helpful so I'm probably not doing it actively enough.

Does "summarize" the notes basically mean fillling out the handout?

Don't read the outlines. You won't have time. Just watch the videos and read the sections of the outlines that are confused about after watching the videos. Good luck!

what about the ungraded, subject-specific essays? necessary to do them? or just write 1 and bullet the rest?

This is my plan. It's how I did Themis MPRE and worked great. The outlines are very good.sdphill wrote:Don't read the outlines. You won't have time. Just watch the videos and read the sections of the outlines that are confused about after watching the videos. Good luck!

I'm in MO.
Started yesterday (Monday).
Reading the outlines beforehand seems a waste of time.
Sometimes I feel like I'm not doing anything right. Lol. Been putting in more time than I expected.

New York here! Hello
Started on Monday. Started with reading the outlines, but after reading this thread this morning, decided not to unless I am confused about something.

When about should I feel confident that the information is memorized?
Should it be firmly in my mind by the end of the lectures (assuming I continue to study outside of lecture), or will it stick over time?

FL here. Started a few weeks ago because I have to work for most of bar prep. I have found it really useful to read the outlines first before delving into the videos. But only if you have the time as a previous poster mentioned. The pedagogical method really works for me - if you do the diagnostic before formally starting, it is really satisfying to see how far you have come when you see your scores steadily improve. Good luck all.

I'm considering maybe some Critical Pass flashcards... I was going to do Adaptibar but I've heard the Q's they have are identical to Themis so just choose either Themis or Adaptibar. [Obviously we're all using Themis here so I decided to skip Adaptibar. It's also expensive.]CaptainLeela wrote:Also are people buying any supplemental materials? I planned to pickup lean sheets as I've seen raves about them, wondered if others were doing the same?

I can tell you from my experience Themis and Adaptibar questions are not all that similar.cleanhustle wrote:I'm considering maybe some Critical Pass flashcards... In the sense that both are using the same bar-caliber MBE questions?Nebby wrote:I heard AdaptiBar was unnecessary if you're taking Themis. Didn't realize people got supplements outside of their bar course. Is this TCR? I just figured that completing Themis would be sufficient. How much work outside the schedule of the course are people doing? Or is it fine to just stick strictly to the Themis schedule?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
