NY Bar (July) Logistics Questions

Post by mclf90 » Wed May 04, 2016 12:49 am

The New York Bar is July 26-27, 2016.

Since I do not have a New York address I'm assuming I'll get the Albany test location.

Are there any resources for best hotels to stay in? I'm assuming I need to arrive July 25 and depart July 28 but was wondering if anyone describes whether you need to stay that extra night or if people fly out the night of the bar exam? Really, I don't know what to do here and any sources you can provide, rather anecdotal or from review websites, would be much appreciated!

So you can book the Best Western Sovereign Hotel which is like 15mn driving from the test center. The very good thing is that they offer a shuttle service dedicated for the takers. It was $15 per ride so $30 a day ($60 total). I had no vehicle, I used it and it was perfect and on time of course.

Some hotels are much more closer from the exam location but they were either too expensive or booked.

Last feb, the hotel provided a shuttle after the bar exam in order to drive everyone to the train station. The thing is that there was a a train to NYC a 7PM'ish (amtrak i believe) and the exam was done at 5Am but people were running around in the lobby, it was hard to catch the train I believe but they made it.

Personally I had my bus to NYC at 10PM or something so I was more relax and went to the bar of the hotel, the waitress was hot and I had my first beer in about two months so it was cool.

As for flying, I don't know but I'd say that a vast majority of bar takers left the last day. I arrived a day before the exam and it was enough.

Hope it helps and good luck.

That's correct if you are in Albany go for best western sovereign hotel (you can get a bus too just outside hotel) and if you are in buffalo go for holiday inn (the cab costs $5-10 as there will other candidates to share).

I took the NY Bar Albany in February, and I stayed at the renaissance. It is literally across the street from the convention center. I walked back to my hotel room during the lunch breaks and ate sandwiches I kept in my fridge. It was a welcomed break from all the chatter and speculation. I also slept in just a few more minutes before going over to the plaza. Totally worth it.

I did not fly into Albany, I took a bus and a train. I grew up in Manhattan, and my folks are still there, so I bussed up and spent the night and then took Amtrak up. The hotel picked me up from the train station. I did, however, fly out of Albany airport to get home. The reason why I bussed/trained there and flew back was to avoid any travel delays. I could handle a travel issue on the back end, but stressing to get to Albany due to inclement weather was not something I would entertain. I also got to Albany two days before the exam, and posted up in my room to study.

I hope this helps.
