I am planning on taking the DC UBE but not the MBE part, because I have a qualifying score. What about you?

Just want to make sure you're aware that although DC will let you waive in with a qualifying MBE score + bar admission in another state, or use an old qualifying MBE score and sit for just essays in the event you aren't barred in another state, in order to obtain a PORTABLE (i.e., can be used in other UBE states) UBE score, you need to sit for the entire UBE in one sitting. That means taking the entire UBE, MBE included. You can't use an old MBE score to obtain a portable UBE score.RBGFan5258 wrote:I am planning on taking the DC UBE but not the MBE part, because I have a qualifying score. What about you?

Thank you. This is very helpful. I'm aware of that.

I know. If only the rest of the country had started moving towards UBE 2 years ago. It sucks sitting for the MBE again, and it's so tempting not to especially if you're interested in mostly just DC and don't have to. But it's also so convenient to have that portable score with states moving in that direction.

I'm waiting on results from MD, but whether or not I passed, I still think I might want to take DC this July to get the ball rolling on getting barred in D.C. I work full time at a stressful job though, and I cannot take any time off for the bar. I am wondering how taking essential 1/2 the bar will be different from studying for the whole thing, especially because the MPT is a signifcant part of the 1/2 of the exam that I'd be taking. I'm not sure what my study plan would look like. Is anyone out there in the same boat? It would be great to have a study buddy, I've learned that they really are important.

Same here. Because for the first time after many attempts, I managed to score that "precious" 133 on the MBE, I am exploring the option of transferring my MBE score to DC and sit there only for the MEE and MPT in July.RBGFan5258 wrote:I'm waiting on results from MD, but whether or not I passed, I still think I might want to take DC this July to get the ball rolling on getting barred in D.C. It's really nice to not have to worry about the MBE and only focus on the half of the exam, which lasts only one day. However, these are what make me worry:
- I'm literally clueless as to how to study only for the MEE without really investing on the MBE, which has always been my study method.
- That could result in weakening my grip on the MBE subjects, which still account for a majority of the MEE subjects, because my attention would at least initially go to the non-MBE MEE subjects such as corporations, domestic relations, etc.
- I guess I would start by chewing on the MEE outlines of sorts and then start practice writing essays? Not sure how.
- Also, now DC imposes the four-time exam taking limit, which really sucks. As a repeat bar taker, I'm really averse on this type of restriction.
Additionally, meeting the 5/18 DC application deadline seems not easy when their NCBE C&F application seems quite lengthy.
Still, love to hear how to study only the essay portion of DC and succeed!

Re: July 2016 UBE DC study buddy
I'm working full time too. I won't be able to catch the May 18th DC UBE deadline as well. So I decided to take it in NY since their application is much more easier and straightforward. This, however, should affect studying plans and contents.
Starting next week, I will study everyday after work for 4 hours. Saturday and Sundays, I'll study 7-8 hours. If that schedule is good anybody, let's do it!
Good luck everybody!

I am working full-time as well. I am sitting for the July 2016 DC UBE exam. I live and work in NJ/NY area. I missed the NY deadline. For that reason, I am taking the portable UBE in DC (I will plan to transfer it to NY later on). I am starting to study today, 3 to 4 hours daily. In the weekend, I will increase to 6 or 7 hours. Please let me know if anyone from this area would like to form a study group. I am taking Barmax.
