Small Study Group of 3 for July 2016 UBE

Post by kraeton » Mon Mar 21, 2016 5:40 pm

This might be a bit unusual but what the hell, I'll give it a shot.

I know it's early, and I'm certainly not suggesting that we should begin our studies anytime soon, but I thought it wouldn't be the worst idea to try looking for a study group right now that's a bit more structured than just posting on this forum. You know what I mean, some questions posted in this forum with 1 or 2 responses and 500 views, while generous, is hardly reliable.

I'm primarily looking for re-takers who have either successfully passed the bar elsewhere in past tests or those who failed but got reasonably close, needing either a bit of a boost or just some review. If you're a first time bar exam taker, but you remember quite a bit of the MBE/MEE subjects, that's fine too. I'm just trying to avoid the worst case scenario where 1 member benefits in a grossly disproportionate way, so this is more of a suggestion than a requirement.

I suggest not more than 3 members with each member taking responsibility for a select # of subjects, essentially becoming the group "specialist" for any questions re: that subject. I made a private subreddit on reddit.com, so just as long you post your question on there, your question should be answered within an hour, 24 hours at the latest. I, for one, will probably view that subreddit every couple of hours....

We could then have a skype or call session for perhaps an hour in a weekend day to hash out any further questions or clarification on topics that wasn't fully fleshed out in the threads/posts.

I'm fairly competent with the MBE subjects, scoring right around the 75%+ mark in AdaptiBar. I can take the traditionally "difficult subjects" on the MBE if noone else wants it such as Property, Evidence, K's, etc...

I primarily want help with the MEE. I haven't practiced essays too much, and have been out of law school for almost 3 years now.

We could create our own schedule, turn in essays to each other, critique, analyze, etc...

Don't get the answer explanation in Adapti-Bar or any other resource you may have? I'd be more than happy to give it a shot.

I took Themis awhile back, and I've been exposed to BarBri materials too. Frankly, the lectures are underwhelming and as other TLS posts have said before, "useless and an utter waste of time" more often than not, and Themis's so-called support barely gives you a direct response to any question on the law you may have (seriously, it's almost like they haven't even read your question)... I've heard Barbri's not much better either. I'm fairly certain I can give you a better answer on the MBE subjects than they can most of the time just because I give a shit.

I highly welcome anyone who doesn't plan on taking one of the big test prep companies only because i think it's completely unnecessary and frankly, I don't want their schedule to conflict with "ours." It's up to you of course, but I hope we can talk before you throw a wad of cash at them unless your firm's compensating you for it of course.

Requirements:

1. UBE Taker or one where UBE % is incredibly high (Our studies will focus only on MBE/MEE/MPT, so if you have state-specific material, obviously, you're on your own).

2. Adapti-Bar Account. ($395 or significantly less for Returning Members)

3. Skype Chat once a week, and maybe 2x/week nearing the Bar Exam date.

4. Make/have a reddit account to access the subreddit.

5. Skype account (Just to voice chat)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is basically all we should need.

I have a frankly disgusting amount of material whose usage we can talk about later if we get a chance on Skype. I'm currently out of the country right now hence my insistence on skype.

Honestly, more than receiving help, I just thought it would be a lot more motivating and frankly enjoyable if I have some "comrades," since I plan on studying by myself. I definitely do want structure only because online and anonymous study groups tend to dissolve without strict guidelines, but I'm personally a fairly chill guy. I'll probably end up answering more than asking, but that's a great study method in itself, and we have plenty of time even if we start at the typical May schedule.

Anyway, I hope to hear from some interested people.

Thanks for reading the long post. I'd be happy to hear any suggestions.

Maybe this thread could spawn other groups too, i dunno.
