California swearing in

Post by Actus Reus » Sun Nov 22, 2015 4:51 pm

Out of state attorney and have work so December swearing in won't work. Anyone know if I have to have a judge swear me in? Or can it anyone from the list?

I would fly in but since my second bar state firm won't pay and we're not at NY to 190k yet.

Any individual authorized by the CA State Bar can swear you in. Here's the information, which says you can do it from a foreign country under certain circumstances, etc.: http://admissions.calbar.ca.gov/Portals ... 0214_R.pdf

You'll need to be sure to have your registration card, or affidavit, with you and completed fully, then you send it in for processing.

Unless you want a glory ceremony, the most easy way to do it is finding a notary public and then mail the card in.

Yes, read the rule and follow the rule: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displ ... =2093-2094. CCP 2093(a).

Thanks. The PDF is what I referenced earlier. The bottom section seems to restrict it to judges or clerks of court for out of state.

It is worded rather oddly, but to my knowledge it's merely restrictive of judges in particular, not the other authorized individuals. Just make sure you have your registration card, etc. You should be able to quite easily work out logistics with a notary (even better if your firm has an authorized notary). If you're anything like me, you'll read the relevant rules twice to make sure you don't screw up and put getting licensed on hold.

Best of luck ;)

I was out of state and that's what I did. Didn't have any issues.

Not meaning to hijack the OP's question (but it's related to the general title of the thread), how do they do those mass swearing in ceremonies that the State Bar gives and how long do they take? TIA.
