Last week I was notified that I had passed and been certified for admission to the NJ Bar.
A sign-in ceremony is scheduled for December 1, 2015. My notification noted that:'
"Please note that if you do not attend the Trenton War Memorial ceremony, your oath card must be completed and returned to our office within 90 days of this notification."
This means I can wait until January to take the oath and return it to the office. I am not currently employed in NJ and won't start looking for a job there for a couple of months. (haven't relocated yet) In theory, waiting offers two benefits: (1) The first year of admission is free, regardless of the time of year; and (2) One less year to perform CLE credits.
Has anyone ever done this? Is there something I'm not thinking about?

Based on your analysis of " (1) The first year of admission is free, regardless of the time of year; and (2) One less year to perform CLE credits. " It is quite obvious that you are a new attorney waiting to be sworn in.

Re: Should I wait to return my oath card to the NJ Bar?
A bit more: I am licensed in the jurisdiction I currently reside in. However, I will be moving to NJ in the beginning of next year. I'm just wondering if anyone has delayed admission by 1-2 months in order to delay both bar fees and the CLE time frame.
It seems like I can wait 90 days to return the oath card, but I'm just wondering if I haven't thought of anything.......
