Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
i am still waiting for the result in NYS.
The last few Barbri supplemental PTs( those 50 Qs set posted in PDF) are quite similar to the real MBE. I got 127 in the midterm and was able to hit over 75% towards the end in those supplemental PTs. I am hoping I can get 140+ in the real thing. Then I can pass with a 47 average in writing.
Good luck to us all!

Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
I studied with people who did not pass. However, everyone checks the boxes for things preparing an hour for the lecture. No one does that. The biggest difference I saw between P/F was people who did MBE questions and learned why the correct answers were correct and why the wrong answers were wrong Passed. Those who memorized outlines and did not pass.

OT, but when I listened to the President of Barbri say that 81% of the people who complete the entire course pass the bar, I realized completing anything less was not an option. I never understood why folks pay for the course and do not complete it. Anyhow, good luck, I'm sure you'll be fine.

so what kind of weird numbers game are they playing? 81% of entire course, but they kept saying that those who completed 75% 100% passed? (that may have been for my school though).LAWYER2 wrote:OT, but when I listened to the President of Barbri say that 81% of the people who complete the entire course pass the bar, I realized completing anything less was not an option. Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
The 75%/pass thing was for a "significant number of schools" or something like that. The rep for my school said everyone who did at least 75% passed last year. However, I think barbri said that 75% also includes doing 75% of amp and submitting all of the essays.victortsoi wrote:so what kind of weird numbers game are they playing? 81% of entire course, but they kept saying that those who completed 75% 100% passed? I could definitely be off with that 81% number. I just remember it being high and I knew I had to complete AMP and the entire course.victortsoi wrote:so what kind of weird numbers game are they playing? 81% of entire course, but they kept saying that those who completed 75% 100% passed? Tight logic.LAWYER2 wrote:OT, but when I listened to the President of Barbri say that 81% of the people who complete the entire course pass the bar, I realized completing anything less was not an option. Most folks don't complete the course because they don't need to do every little BarBri exercise in order to pass the bar. I passed the CA bar having completed less than 40% of BarBri. That wasn't because I was lazy; it was because I realized early on in the process that a lot of what BarBri offered--including the lectures and some of the practice exercises--weren't helpful to me. So I used the parts of BarBri that helped me, and I ignored the parts that didn't help me.
The goal is to pass the bar itself, not to complete each of the hundreds (thousands?) of little steps laid out by a company's prep course.

Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
Agreed. I haven't received my results yet but a few weeks before the exam I realized that I needed to deviate from the barbri schedule. Many of the people I know that passed ended up doing their own thing too. Also, that 81% (or anything near that) seems very low. I wonder how it compares to all barbri takers or even those that completed 50%.rpupkin wrote:Tight logic.LAWYER2 wrote:OT, but when I listened to the President of Barbri say that 81% of the people who complete the entire course pass the bar, I realized completing anything less was not an option. Remember when barbri had an exercise where you literally plug in pre-written essay answers in response to the right question?
Fuck doing all of barbri.
Fuck doing all of barbri.

I don't know anyone who completed the whole course. I want to say finishing 60% was pretty good.

Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
I know only one person who completed the whole course, and I think she started in April or something crazy like that.
I think I got up to 80-81% if I remember correctly. I've tried to erase that part of my life from my memory.

Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
I got up to about 81% as well. I wasn't on here at all during bar studying so I've been genuinely surprised to see how many people only did like 30-40% of the course. Really thought that most people who took it would have been closer to 60%+. I get the "I only did the stuff that worked for me" argument, but still thought that most people would just go along with the course (which is what I did, and got me a 288 when I needed a 272 to pass).

Made it to 75% by checking off a bunch of stupid shit at the end. Passed.

Re: anyone do more than 75% of barbri and fail?
Its not about checking off the boxes. Its more about doing what you need to do to pass the test. I spent a lot of my time memorizing outlines for state materials. I think that was way more beneficial than reading model answers without knowing the rules. Technically I only completed 40% of Barbri, but I I was actually way better prepared than that would indicate. Now, whether i was able to execute on game day is a different matter and one that I will have to get back to you on.
