Ok. My guess is: average essay score (1-7)*35.07+30.3= scaled score. That means an average of 3.5 on each essay is 153, and a 2.5 is 117.SemperLegal wrote:I tried backwards calculating it a few times, but there's to many variances (the converter the NCBEX endorses takes the standard deviation of the MBE and the essays in the jxs normalizes them and then uses that to base of the mbe and essay average) I tried using excel to calculate it based on a range of SDs, possible average essays, and historical MBE data, but the scale was pretty varied. All I can recall was: Average of 3 on the essays was like 120-135. An average of 1 was 98-110, and a 6 was 210-5000 (things got weird as the scale got larger).bartkr wrote:Anyone have an approximate scaled v raw score chart of NJ essays? I'm so nervous

Does that mean you would then take that essay score and just add it to your scaled MBE score to get your final score?SemperLegal wrote:Ok. civ pro essay was brutal, had to make up the rule. I think ny cares if you know the law cold, but nj cares about the IRAC. This is my understanding accroding to the nj bar requirement. It's this true?

Yes, but don't get too excited, it's just recreational math. There's too many variables that NJ does not release. If you give me a score you need, I might be able to give you a target score. But it is still a guesstimate.LSATclincher wrote:Does that mean you would then take that essay score and just add it to your scaled MBE score to get your final score?SemperLegal wrote:Ok. I think today's the day. I'm very excited about the very expedited and flexible swearing in process. Would like to have my longtime family friend do it at thanksgiving, if possible. Id rather do it in my office, but I my family hasn't gotten a chance to see my high school graduation, ug grad, law school grad, or any of my promotions, so it's either this or risking them crashing my N.Y. Ceremony.

Jeez, is this an educated guess or a prayer? Wish you the best but considering that your family hasn't seen any of your milestones since pre-high school, what makes you think you can drag them into your office for this?SemperLegal wrote:

Hoping that today's the day. This may have been asked already, but does anyone know what time NJ usually releases the scores? 5 pm? Midnight?

The last 2 NJ release dates have been on the Friday following the NY release date. The times vary from early afternoon to around 4pm.TheTraveler wrote:Hoping that today's the day. This may have been asked already, but does anyone know what time NJ usually releases the scores? 5 pm? Midnight?

Well, I was going to do it at thanksgiving itself (rather than my first instinct, alone in the office with a notary). Wasn't trying to sell a sob story, I didn't want them at those events, or go to most myself, because it seems braggy/an unnecessary hassle when I can just get my certifications in the mail. But I figured I'd throw them a bone and involve them in this one.SA2014 wrote:Jeez, is this an educated guess or a prayer? And it's an educated guess. In relation to the time of year, NY release, and the press release on the UBE I think NJ has its ducks in a row.

Just the perennial musings of Chief Justice Radner that NJ is exploring moving to the UBE. I assume they would hold the announcement and the committee formation until all the grading was all done and the score data reviewed. Then again, accurate rumours showed that NY sat on graded scores for at least a week.cmblack wrote:I must have missed it, but whats the UBE press release?SemperLegal wrote:Well, I was going to do it at thanksgiving itself (rather than my first instinct, alone in the office with a notary). I really can't take the waiting anymore. I'm pretty sure if I fail I'll get fired from my current job. I just have no confidence that I got 133 on the essays.

From this, I gather that your current job is in NJ. Don't NJ firms give you until after the Feb exam before they can you?Mr.PoopyButthole wrote:I really can't take the waiting anymore. Risk adverse, planning for contingencies, and prone to trying to see whatever obstacles are beyond the horizon? Seems lawyerly to me.PepsiMinimum wrote:Do you think this is the right mentality for this career?Mr.PoopyButthole wrote:I really can't take the waiting anymore. I am thinking it's not going to happen today. In the past did they just post the results on the user's homepage, without an email or anything warning them that the scores would be released?
