Same situation. Didn't study as much the second time around. Mostly studied MBE. Didn't practice any essays or MPTs. Though my MBE was lower than yours, my essay was lower, which was unexpected. Perhaps the UT graders were harsh.Mainecoon wrote:I passed the Utah Bar with a 166 on the MBE while working 50 hours a week until the last two weeks. I had limited time to study, but generally kept up with the BarBri schedule except for the essays and the MPTs. This strategy was somewhat risky, since it is a separate skill to recall rules wholesale for the essays instead of ticking through the multiple choice answers for the MBE. I'm a good writer and went to a top 25 law school, but my scores demonstrate how critical it is to practice essays and the MPT in the actual format of the exam instead of skimming over practice tests and the model answers. My MBE scaled score was 20 points higher than my scaled essay score, but given my time constraints I thought the MBE warranted most of my focus. As an aside, I practiced corporate law at a big firm in a jurisdiction other than Utah before moving to Utah, and the bar exam was a ridiculous waste of my summer. I hope in the future law students need only pass one bar exam to practice law in all fifty states.
Thanks for posting.MeowMeow3939 wrote:MO Bar - passed. Essay - 157, MBE - 155. Barbri. Felt awful about the MBE: AM section was noticeably more difficult, but ran out of time on the last question in the PM and finished the AM with 10 minutes left to stare at what were probably wrong guesses. I think I got around 120 or 130 on the Barbri midterm. Didn't study for MBE after midterm (which i took about 2 weeks before the test) because i was so worried about the essays. I felt great about the essays, didn't quite finish one of the MPTs, whoops. Never submitted any essays or MPTs for grading.
If I were to take the bar again, I would use different MBE questions (whoever has the realest? idk) because the Barbri ones did not feel like the actual MBE. I felt like Barbri tested me on the exceptions to the exceptions to a general rule, whereas the MBE went straight for the most obscure BS possible. Does barbri not buy previous questions from NCBE? If not, WTF did "I" pay so much more for Barbri?
Did not notice any strings of D answers.

This is exactly how I felt. You need a 142 in Oregon -- I thought there was no way I hit that considering how I felt walking out of the MBE. Congrats!ResIpsa305 wrote:
I left the MBE feeling absolutely horrible, and like many of you I thought it was nothing like the Barbri practice questions. I felt confident on only a very small % of the questions (I remember thinking to myself midway through the AM session "I can't believe this is actually happening"). I was so lost. To those still waiting - there is hope!!
Congrats!LAW813FL wrote:Florida is out today but we don't get scores for a few days by snail mail. I passed and felt generally shitty about MBE afterwards. Scored 121 on Kaplan midterm and 126 on final. Will come back and edit this when I get my scores!
I don't think there is any good way to determine likelihood of passing based on that criteria without substantial amounts of data for which there is no easy access. And, sadly, the parties with most of that consolidated data are bar prep courses and law schools, etc. I don't suspect they're willing to relinquish their hold and, generally, they don't just hand over raw data (they often manipulate it).Mainecoon wrote:Thanks for the report robinhoodOO. Is there a foolproof way to calculate the chances of someone who completed at least 75% of a study program AND who has consistently performed around a 75% -80% level on standardized tests, final exams, etc. during their academic career passing the bar exam? I think the pass rate for these people would be pretty high, which would be consistent with the results you posted. This is what I wanted to know when I was waiting for my exam results, anyway because I'm in that category and wanted to know that I would pass (haha). In all seriousness, I don't know anyone who is in this category who failed the bar, but I know plenty of people who didn't put the time in but who are talented test takers passing the exam. I guess it should come as no surprise that if you study hard and you're a decent test taker, you'll pass the exam. Best of luck to all of you who are waiting for your results.

Dude, you passed. What else matters?lawguyjake wrote:Do I understand correctly that we are not told what our raw MBE scores are? I received my scaled score but I am interested in knowing how many I actually got correct. I'm not down for an exam where I passed despite having missed 60% of the questions (the remainder of which I only answered correctly because I guessed well).
It would be like...totally corrupt if the examiners didn't tell us how many questions people were getting right and wrong.
RIGHT?!
The folks who aren't passing because of an unfair exam matter to me. An exam where folks can pass while simultaneously missing 50%+ of the questions cannot reasonably be described as a test of "general competence." It's bullshit and I'm not down for that.Danger Zone wrote: Dude, you passed. What else matters?
You will probably not get your raw score. Most, maybe even all, states only release scaled MBE scores. I don't see how that is corrupt. It would be nice to know, sure (even with a section-by-section breakdown), but that information generally isn't disseminated.lawguyjake wrote:Do I understand correctly that we are not told what our raw MBE scores are? Just call up NCBE and ask for your score. I'm sure that if you flirt with whoever answers the phone and offer to buy them a nice steak dinner that they will then tell you your score.dessert_sands wrote:MBE Scores coming in?
