Take CA Bar in Feb, 2016, doable?

Post by whoknowswhom » Mon Aug 31, 2015 4:44 pm

Hi, I'm thinking about taking the CA bar in Feb, 2016 and I'm a 3L. I know the timeline seems weird. I have accepted an offer in New York, so I'll be taking the NY bar in July, 2016, but I may want to transfer to the CA office in the near future. (thinking about 1 or 2 years after graduation and don't want to prepare for the bar while at work) I have a couple of questions:

1) Does CA have special rules for students attending law schools outside CA? Or do I just need to register the CA bar exam?
2) Is it doable? When should I put all my time and efforts into studying?
3) If I pass, is it difficult to satisfy the CLE requirements of CA if I work in NY?

Thanks a lot!

1) I believe as long as its an ABA accredited school you just need to register for the CA bar
2) I think it is, most people who take the exam only start studying right after graduation, which gives them a little over 2 months.
3) I do not know, but I imagine there is some way to do it online because there are others that keep up CA certification while practicing in other states.

Not sure about the rest but this shouldn't be a big deal. A lot of CLEs are approved for multiple states (I have PLI in mind), you just have to make sure you get the required hours in the necessary topics.

Are you graduating early? I think you generally have to finish law school to sit for the bar in CA.(https://www.calbarxap.com/applications/ ... ligibility)
