Alcohol Consumption During Bar Prep

Post by petepilsh » Fri Jul 24, 2015 11:51 pm

I am just curious what other bar exam takers alcohol consumption has been like while preparing for the bar. Are you drinking more, less, stopped drinking completely, or has it made you start drinking for the first time?
What has your drinking strategy been?

Well, since my state is 50% beer, 25% wine and 25% hard alcohol, I've been consistently hitting the brews pretty hard; I've basically skipped all in state wines, and focused on the general varietals, and then with the hard alcohol, I figure I got through law school, as long as I'm familiar with the form, the substance itself shouldnt be too hard. Just getting ready for Thursday night; probably try to rely on my beer drinking to keep me going, even though wine consumption that night will be iffy and the hard alcohol part will inevitably lead to tears and who the fuck knows what after that.

I started trying not to drink much - was concerned it would effect my performance.

Midway in I decided a bottle of wine for successfully forcing myself to read about agency law was acceptable.

By the last three days I was drinking Fireball straight from the bottle while chugging Tecate and wishing marijuana was legal in my state.

I passed first try with an above 150 MBE

YMMV

ETA: also Xanax. Thank God for that, or I would've died of stress. Don't mix hard alcohol with Xanax though, that shit's deadly. Also, don't start Xanax on test day - saw someone falling asleep during their exam. Talked to them later and found out they couldn't take the anxiety anymore and had gotten a prescription for a benzo the day before. Took it with their coffee before the MBE portion. They failed.

Been drinking better stuff and less of it. Four Roses single barrel, etc.

More. Two beers a night. Steady.

I'm drinking more during Bar prep than normal. I generally try to avoid drinking when I'm at home by myself -- alcoholism (and other addictions) are prevalent in my family. I'm no teetotaler, but normally I drink only when I'm at brunch/dinner or out with friends. During Bar prep, though, I've spent many nights sitting in front of my computer with a bottle of scotch (like tonight, for example). So long as it doesn't interfere with your ability to study, do what you've gotta do.

Haven't drank since May 29. I had to give notice to my local liquor store guys. They stock Wild Turkey just for me.

I have a heavyish (reasonable for the UES moms, not reasonable for anyone else) benzo script and I haven't changed that at all. It helps, but it's a fucking rarity of brain chemistry and years of tolerance building that I'm not dead from drinking Wild Turkey and taking benzos.

Nothing during bar study. I'm too old. If I drink more than 2 beers I'm completely wiped out for the next couple days.

Underrated.

Wow to that.

Anyway, ive resolved to myself i would be sober and clear-eyed during entire bar review; however, I will elect to take the 5th on my plans for the weekend after the bar. Even though my plans are not necessarily illegal, just kinda silly

Haven't had a sip of alcohol since late May. Also cut out caffeine. I cut my calories down by 900 and got in the gym. I've lost 27lbs. Best I have felt in 3 years, but I do need to eat more (if new to weight-loss google "maintenance calories" then subtract 500 or more from that number each day).

My drinking strategy has been to not go too hard during bar prep. I have a few drinks each night to help shut my mind off. Other than a few times this summer I have been able to keep it to just a few.

Anyone ever drank a Kansas City Tea? (Tech N9ne)
Hennessey, Sprite, and a lemon wedge.

The only Tech N9ne drink I've tried is Carribou Lou. I miss undergrad.
