Barbri Simulated MBE
I took the simulated MBE this Monday, and got a 131/200 raw score. Barbri says it's a 80% percentile. However, I'm not sure how accurate their data is, 131 seems dangerously close the passing line, and I feel like if I mess up just a few more questions I could've failed. Do you guys know how the MBE scoring works? how much of a curve will there be? Thanks.

You're going to be okay dude. 120-40 seems to be the range of almost everyone's simulated exams, with 140 on the extreme high end.

Re: Barbri Simulated MBE
Keep in mind that's your raw, not your scaled MBE score. A 131 raw is probably somewhere in the 140s+ when it gets scaled.tepper wrote:are you guys serious?ShitLawOrBust wrote:that's a good score bro

Considering that there are 3 weeks left, I would not say you're "f'd." I would focus on learning 80% of the MBE subject material well and realize that you're not going to know the finer points of the Rule Against Perpetuities. Knowing a good chunk of the material well should take you a long ways. Also, get the Emanuel MBE book and go through 1 question at a time. Answer the question, then read the explanation (while it's still super fresh in your memory). You shouldn't be worried about timing, etc. right now.bigstumpdriver wrote:I got 83. also I just wanna add that you should really focus on the wrong answers you got and figure out EXACTLY why you got it wrong.

Alright, let me break it down for you like this.tepper wrote:I took the simulated MBE this Monday, and got a 131/200 raw score. Barbri says it's a 80% percentile. The Barbri sim exam is totally raw - it doesn't scale at all. The simulated exam this year had an average score of about 114-116. Your percentile ranking on that is based on the national average of everyone who took the simulated MBE.
The average raw score on the ACTUAL MBE last year, was about ~128. Now, that's 128 out of 190, because 10 questions on the real MBE don't count.
A 128 raw scales to about a 140 in most states, but the scaling of your raw MBE score varies from state to state. In addition, it also varies from year to year.
So if you were looking at a 131 SCALED, yes, you'd probably need to worry, but looking at past bar exams, a 131 will scale anywhere from 139-145, which, while not the highest score ever, is good enough to pass you providing you don't tank any other section too bad.
If you are taking it in a "dumber" MBE state, a 131 would probably scale even higher.
If you want to take a break from bar cramming and want to discuss the math of the whole thing, feel free to message me.
