Average Barbri Discount? Forum

I've been given a discount of $800 for a Barbri course. Since I locked in the price during 1L year, it brings my Barbri balance to only about a hundred more than the cost of Kaplan (before any Kaplan rebate is factored in). I've been trying to knock down the price even more because I still feel it is inflated for the product....so I wonder what is the maximum discount that Barbri gives?

(They tell me that $800 is near their max, but I am suspicious of this claim since I've heard of people getting $1200 off.)

Themis is $1,500 before discounts. Everybody on TLS from last year seemed to like it just fine.

The common answer: Unless your firm is paying, Themis is just as good as Barbri for a fraction of the price.

I paid $1,500 for a class that has a list price of $3,125.

Be firm with your negotiations and don't believe them when they tell you they can't go lower, don't price match, etc.

The deadline for paying off the balance is coming up soon - April 1st.

I got $1,500 off of BarBri. I've done lots of public interest work, have a PI job lined up, and am INCREDIBLY poor.

I'm a Barbri rep and it pretty much depends on how good you are at negotiating with the account manager. I've seen anywhere from $100 off to nearly free [this was an extremely special circumstance, don't expect it to happen to you].

Stop thinking of this as Barbri looking for factors, like financial hardship, for dolling out reduced rates. Randomly grab me a handful of 3ls and I guarantee you most of them will be financially hard-up. Barbri does not lower their rates based on any degree of altruism; this is a business and you are the customer, nothing more, nothing less.

Think of the bar review class exactly like buying a new car. You can use nearly the same approach here as you would there.

Kaplan, Themis, etc. are the other car dealerships. Use their prices as leverage for Barbir to lower theirs. When I was talking with Barbri I was also talking with Themis and Kaplan and was able to get each company to continuously try and beat the other. At some point, I stopped talking to Kaplan and Themis but continued to tell Barbri that I was receiving better offers from them.

Also, I think it is important to remind Barbri that they are not selling a superior product. Other bar review programs have similar pass rates and cost a fraction of the cost. They will likely pound the opposite in in your head but it is wrong; the numbers do not back them up. Maybe they did in the past, but not anymore. Further, Barbri is aware that students are becoming smarter about their review class decision and are not simply lining up stacks of cash to pay for the Barbri name. Volumes of self-study materials are available and passing the bar with them is no longer viewed as impossible. Barbri knows this but you should make a point to gently remind them.

Last, Barbri is selling you information. The product you receive does not cost much to make. Therefore, the amount of money they need to get from you to profit is relatively low. Barbri, and others, make a killing on people and firms paying full price for their program and they can afford to reduce their rates substantially to people that press them. Tell them you will keep their offer secret and will not share it with other students. They stressed to me how important it was to keep my rate a secret. Tell them your lips are glued.

I was amazed during the last semester of school how many people were stoked on the $500, $300, or even $100 discount they received off the list price. My classmates were so thrilled they saved so much. I was extremely pissed because my friends were paying way more than they needed to but also because that means I probably could have saved even more.

Yes, I think it's 4,000 points or something for a $50 Barbri rebate on Westlaw rewards site. You're allowed up to two rebates (so $100 total). Better than a coffee mug.

Word on the street is that certain Barbri locations haven't been doing so hot--Themis and Kaplan are gaining more and more customers because of their prices (Barbri used to easily get a majority of students, but that is changing)


That being said, if you get ahold of the right person, you can get a discount of ~1,000 so the price is only slightly higher than their competitors; i.e. the difference between themis and my new price is $400 instead of 1,500. (source: I got a big discount semi-recently, and it took about 5 mins on the phone).

im also interested in this, kaplan offered me 1600 for va after negotiating, i went to barbri to see what they could offer and all they talked to me about was there tuition assistance program but they weren't throwing numbers around, im a 2l btw

yea i was thinking that as well, the list price for the kaplan va class was 2600, the rep i spoke to said he can do it for 2300, i was able to talk down to 1600, but now idk if thats even a good deal.
