It's not a Barbri thing... or a Themis thing. Lean Sheets is just another option for supplemental material. It's completely separate from any bar review program. Just be sure to use a discount code if you get them. The word "Dustin" should get you 25% off, and I haven't seen one better than that (you get 20% off if you "like" their facebook page)... although it looks like the week before the bar they offer them at 30% off. Still debating whether or not to get them... feeling a bit overwhelmed and that I might need them as a back up... Definitely not using those GIANT Themis Books anymore... Here's the website: http://www.leansheets.com/california-ba ... heets-com/ And in case anyone is wondering, my name isn't Dustin, and I don't have anything to do with Lean Sheetsnorthwood wrote:Apple Tree wrote:I got Lean sheets and really like it. I usually make a longer outline and then make a very short one when I'm studying for finals, but I just don't feel like I have the time. Plus, it's not like I can take my outline into the exam with me...
if you are not with the Barbri program, how do you get ahold of the lean sheets??

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow -
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
Whe he might have captured the victor's cup;
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It might be near when it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit -
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

I'm doing Pa/Nj and never got a message about how far along I should be, but I'm sitting at 28%. I also started a week after the recommended start date.

Question about rule memorization for the essays.
Are you guys copying the rule from the model answer of the practice essays and then memorizing that? I heard that's a good idea, and I wanted to know what everyone else's thoughts are on this.

I'm using the template rules, memorizing them (or at least getting them in my head well enough that I can reconstruct them), and then practicing with them.Genuine4ps wrote:Question about rule memorization for the essays.

If that's what you're doing, just make sure you're using actual model answers, with the correct black letter law and not the answers that the CA Bar posts - because sometimes they don't have the law exactly right... they're student answers. I know a lot of the Themis practice essays are from past bar questions, not sure about the answers though...Genuine4ps wrote:When you say "template rule," you're referring to the rule from the essay's model answer, right?puttycake wrote:I'm using the template rules, memorizing them (or at least getting them in my head well enough that I can reconstruct them), and then practicing with them.Genuine4ps wrote:Question about rule memorization for the essays.

Ok, a little confused here. I don't live in CA. CA Bar posts answers to essays from past exams?
When I say "model answers to our essays," I'm referring to the answer that Themis provides us immediately after taking an (ungraded) essay.

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on these lean sheets...before I do, anyone get them and NOT like them? I know 30 bucks or whatever isn't a lot of money, but...I mean, it's 30 bucks. Haha.

I'd be curious to hear how far along people are who will be testing in the famously easy jurisdictions (Illinois, Mass., any others?).
I'm at 10% in Illinois and not terribly worried. Getting a little more serious about studying this week, then I'll turn it on after July 4.
Any others from easy jurisdictions want to check in? (Or are you all at the beach...?)

Also, pretty behind as well. I don't think we're in that bad of a position, thought, because we're only supposed to complete 75%. I think if we stick to the schedule from here on out, we should be able to meet that goal. Could be wrong.

I'll be interested to see what you think and how closely they follow Themis. One thing that I think they can be useful for is that they provide a bunch of pneumonic devices--something that Themis is lacking.SilverE2 wrote:I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on these lean sheets...before I do, anyone get them and NOT like them? I'm really confused about these. I never received any essay workshop handouts. Is this a California or NY thing, or are you guys taking the MEE?puttycake wrote:No, sorry for being unclear. I'm talking about the essay workshop handouts.Genuine4ps wrote:

For each essay workshop, there is a handout. They're located in the same place as the handouts for the lecture are (i.e., to the right side of the video).Tanicius wrote:I'm really confused about these. Ditto on this. I just completed it, and it says the "average" is 63%.. I clocked in with an amazing 56%JJ556 wrote:Does anyone know what the "Goal" is for Milestone Exam #1?

The problem is that an "average" is misleading. They should be using MEDIAN. It's annoying that they don't/j1987 wrote:Ditto on this. I just completed it, and it says the "average" is 63%.. I clocked in with an amazing 56%JJ556 wrote:Does anyone know what the "Goal" is for Milestone Exam #1?![]()
But what is the goal? Is the goal the average?
I would not be too upset with myself for scoring a 56%. I think we're all in law school mindset where we want to be above the average. This is the bar. And in many states, we only need to be in the top 85%. lol

I got a broadcast message that said not to worry about the average for the milestone exam until a few days from now. I mean right now, the average is all people who followed the schedule or are ahead of schedule and took it as soon as they possibly could, so the average should presumably go down.
