Does anyone think there's a good chance they'll release the scores at midnight? Does NJ give any heads up as to when the scores will be released? Not sure if this was asked before

First time taker with 131 mbe scaled. Dont know how aggressive nj grade their essays. I need 135 at least to pass the phase II, but I barely touched the 4th essay in the morning session (may be just 1 point). Any chance of passing this time?

also, based on barbri and celebration bar video on youtube, an average of more than 3 points for each essay will be a scaled 135. May any retakers confirm this?

I failed in February 2015 (terrible MBE score) but my essays got a scaled score of 134.8 and I got:
4, 1, 5, 3, 6, 1, 4.

Hope this helps!

So you need to average just under 3.5 to hit 135

Thanks Fauxttorney 2015.

since you got a 6 and 2 1s. Do you think nj graders are fair? Do you know on what standard they give takers a 1 or 6points, and most importantly on what standard they give a 3 or 4points ?

Chming in here: That's on a scale of 6 as a perfect score, right? meaning that you just have to get slightly above half of the points for each essay?

I got a 142 on the MBE and passed PA with flying colors, but NJ essays worry me. I know NJ has a reputation for being easier, but I did not have that feeling at all during the exam. Am I losing my mind or is it possible to pass PA and fail NJ?

I knew I got a 1 on those two essays. They were my weaker subjects so I decided to do the bare minimum and try to get 5s and 6s on my stronger subjects. I found that the longer the essay and the more issues I spotted the higher I scored. But that isn't too surprising.

For the essays I got 3s and 4s I wrote an average amount and didn't feel like I was BSing too much. Grading didn't seem too arbitrary, but consistent with what had been posted on the NJ Bar Examiners website.

Talking about essays is hard- it's all dependent on how everyone else does, how many issues you spot, and if you outline your essay in a coherent way.

I'm sure its possible, but I think, if you got a 142, and at least answered all the essays... you are probably good. Plus, while its a small difference, the MBE is weighted stronger in NJ.

What a split. Can you elaborate in any way how this happened? Did you know certain subjects cold, and not know others? I assumed 1's were reserved for just barely putting anything, and 6's were reserved for unattainable model answers.

I thought the PA essays were easier. I guess it all depends on how light NJ grades the essays.

Looks like s/he took a nap every other essay. Sort of how I felt after sloshing thru the NY exam.

So, are we thinking there's a shot that within the roughly 36 hours we may find out? Last year, it came out on the Friday of Halloween. Apparently there was some sort of flooding that shut down the offices, which I guess could delay results coming out, but I'd love to find out today/tomorrow. Any shot?

Me, too. However, not sure whether I'll stay up past midnight for this one. Besides, mMy F5 key is broken from waiting on NY.

Apparently the last few years the grades came out in the afternoon so dress up and go crazy.

I tried backwards calculating it a few times, but there's to many variances (the converter the NCBEX endorses takes the standard deviation of the MBE and the essays in the jxs normalizes them and then uses that to base of the mbe and essay average) I tried using excel to calculate it based on a range of SDs, possible average essays, and historical MBE data, but the scale was pretty varied. All I can recall was: Average of 3 on the essays was like 120-135. An average of 1 was 98-110, and a 6 was 210-5000 (things got weird as the scale got larger).

I've seen that NJ regular registration for Feb 2016 ends tomorrow. Do you think that it's worth concurrent NY/NJ Bar for out-of-state people? Thank you.
