I thought I remember seeing that the First Department doesn't do anything until after results are announced?

I think you can't be certified to the department until after you pass, but you may still get information from the Department regarding the process. So they're not really doing anything, but just letting you know what's required for C&F.

The info I got was basically a checklist and the password for the online orientation that the Second Department requires. Then again, the First Department may be different because they have so many more applicants than the other departments. I know for sure that the Third and Fourth both also send out emails for those who sat.

I have no idea why I can't figure this out, but is our assigned department where we live or where we work? In case specifics matter - living in second department, working in first (there have to be like hundreds (thousands?) of us, right?).

And does it matter if we were entirely out of state at the time of the exam, but will be an in-state resident/employee at the time of admission?

I'm in exactly the same boat: living in Kings County (Second Department), working in New York County (First Department), and took the exam while living out of state. I believe it must be based on where you live (so, for us, Second Department), because you're required to submit a change-of-address request to the BOLE if you change your address before admission, and the form asks for your residential address.

So I guess I answered my own question for practical purposes: I have no idea what department I'm currently assigned to, but once the request is processed I'll be assigned to the Second Department. . . . I think?

I'm in a similar boat. I have on my calendar to update my address on the day I move to NY. Additionally, when filling out the application I remember it asking if I'm currently employed in New York state. Although I have a job lined up, since it doesn't start until mid-September, I answered "no" and took note to update that when employed. Should I have said "yes" to that, and thus update it now, or update it to "yes" when I start work as planned?

Same, but I've also submitted an update on my address, so I'm not sure what will happen with that.

Also got third department stuff, will be changing my address to second.

Second department people: are you allowed to start collecting stuff now? Might as well pretend I'm going to get started on this...

Just got my address change confirmation today too. Any clue when we'll get application info from the Second Department? I already received an email from the Third Department, but that's no longer useful.

I was wondering how accurate the Seperac scoring calculator is? because I put in the score I received last time on the essays and what the website showed was incorrect. Are the scores that show up on Separac without the curve, just raw scores? Thanks.

What do you mean by in correct? Was the seperac calculator giving you higher or lower based on your actual scores?

I'm depressed. Misery post-bar exam and before the results. I can't find a job.

Any advice for email templates reaching out to legal employers you haven't talked to in 5 years?

I have a better relationship with the employers during law school, but I've been avoiding the ones where I worked as a paralegal like the plague because they were awful experiences.

Idk why this is so hard...

Via reddit:

Jackson Mumey of Celebration Bar Review seems to think that the bar results are coming "late September/early October." (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmrD93P ... be&t=14m1s)

Thoughts?

Me too. And I'm just applying for paralegal jobs! Figured I'll just apply to be a paralegal because I don't know if I passed the bar. Just found out today I passed the MPRE, phew.

Having trouble finding a character reference from a lawyer for the bar application that doesn't fit into one of the forbidden categories. Do you guys think a fellow student in my year, but who graduated a semester early, and sat for the February bar (and was admitted like 6 months ago) would be ok, or would that throw up some red flags?

Went through this process a while ago, so don't really remember exact do's and don'ts, but I'm pretty sure all the application said was that you can't have people sign character references that are also applying for admission... Since this person you're talking about was admitted already, I think you're good.

Someone correct me when I'm inevitably wrong, though.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
