My school grade deadline isn't till today which means it'll likely actually be in a week. Super bummed I didn't ask about this earlier when I called the BOLE people... but I can't imagine that a school simply lagging on grades would prohibit us from sitting for the bar. That would be absurd, no? There's a difference between needing to know GPA/grades and whether or not you legit went to an accredited law school (which is what I hope/thought the cert of attendance was for?) :/ Here's to hopingSlytherpuff wrote:I'm still waiting on three grades from my school (they were supposed to be due yesterday) and we're getting dangerously close to the June 15 certificate of attendance deadline.

Does anyone else find Barbri's graded essay comments less than helpful? The grader seems to be looking for the exact phrasing/organization in the model answer and will ignore what you've written down if it doesn't conform to the model answer.

I get your anxiety, I was popping in every other day at the registrar's until she kept reassuring me that everything was in order and that I should just focus on preparing for the exam.Slytherpuff wrote:I mean, it's NYU, they know when they need to get paperwork in for the NY bar. The issue here is getting professors to submit grades by the deadline. At this point, just throw the exams down a staircase and give us grades!PanickingBarTaker wrote:I think you can ask the registrar for the "expedited service" thing they have. You pay a fee ($20-50) for it to be processed at a higher urgency at both the school and BOLE and sent via express mail. Ask if that's still possible.Slytherpuff wrote:I'm still waiting on three grades from my school (they were supposed to be due yesterday) and we're getting dangerously close to the June 15 certificate of attendance deadline.
Pop in just to make sure they sent it out, and then, lay it to rest.

Okay an hour after I posted this, I got another one of my grades back. The only two left are credit/fail so I really hope they get submitted soon! I'm going to call my registrar's office on Monday if I'm still missing grades then to make sure they're prioritizing all the bar takers' forms.

Even better yet if you're close by just drop in, you'll get a clearer answer and probably can maybe spot if the forms went out or not for yourself! (My school had them in a shelf where I could spot when they went out.)Slytherpuff wrote:Okay an hour after I posted this, I got another one of my grades back. My grader's comments were too nice and not critical enough. Then good luck calling them, if all fails let me know I may be able to stop by, NYU Law is right across the street from me.

Didn't your schools need to know your grades prior to graduation to sort out who was eligible to graduate/ who received Latin honors?Sprout wrote:My school grade deadline isn't till today which means it'll likely actually be in a week. That's how my school did it--grades for 3Ls were due something like 1 or 2 days after the last day of exams and graduation was about a week later. Fastest I ever got my law school grades back, by far.

We can walk before we find out if we graduate, and Latin honors don't come out until July for us.

Anyone else having problems with time management on the practice/graded essays? I'm 0/3 in staying within the 30mins. Feeling like trash

I've only done two graded essays, and I tend to be pretty quick on these type of things but ended up running up to the 30 minutes on the civ pro one. That topic is the one I know relatively well, and so I had a lot to say. By contrast, I suck at torts, and even with open notes 30 minute was more than enough time. The fact that you have enough information to bump up against the 30 minutes for three different topics might not be a bad thing at this point! With practice you can probably cut the time spent down by virtue of getting used to the formulaic way they want us to write it.theselearnedhands wrote:Anyone else having problems with time management on the practice/graded essays? Their initial advice was to spend 1.5 hours on it actually, so by actually sticking to the limit I think you're already exceeding expectations!WestWingWatcher wrote:I've only done two graded essays, and I tend to be pretty quick on these type of things but ended up running up to the 30 minutes on the civ pro one. They 100% seem arbitrary to me? Torts essay was difficult for me- I was solidly above 50. Then I thought the civ pro one was pretty easy- went through the good answer after I sent it in and I hit everything. They gave me a 45 with nothing but positive feedback throughout? I sent them an email last night asking for a clearer explanation for my grade because I didn't miss anything and didn't recieve any negative feedback indicating what I did wrong or missed....These are obviously learning/practice exercises but like we're paying over $2k for this.CardozoLaw09 wrote:My grader's comments were too nice and not critical enough. Re: July 2017 NY Bar Hangout Thread
Couldn't agree more. For the first torts essay, I literally hit all but like 3-4 of the points in the self-grade checklist but it was graded as a 45 with the only comments listing the elements of the torts. For the Civ Pro essay, I hit all the major arguments, but missed some of them against the self-grade checklist and it comes back as a 70 with comments being the most boilerplate thing every "go back and look at specific element, outline before writing," etc. So I had better self-graded score for my torts than civ pro but my civ pro was 25 points higher, how sway?Yazzzay wrote:They 100% seem arbitrary to me? Re: July 2017 NY Bar Hangout Thread
Anyone have any tips on the MPT? F17 I did really well on one and bombed the other.. I didn't really have a strategy going in. And to be completely honest I looked at about 4 MPTs prior test day. I figured 20% of the grade.. I'd rather spend my time else where. I also thought that since I've been practicing I could just set it up how the call of the question asked and then plug in facts/thoughts from the fact pattern and then write. I had all this awesome stuff I wanted to say on the second MPT and then totally ran out of time. I watched a YouTube video prior to F17 on "Preparing for the MPT." It showed a spreadsheet where you would plug everything in and organize your writing that way. I thought "oh please.. who's gonna have time to do that?" and now I'm kind of thinking maybe I should have listened to this lady. Although using charts/graphs is really not how I comprehend information. I am more an outline A-Z type of learner/writer.
What strategy are Barbri/Themis/Kaplan teaching everyone how to do the MPT?
