Re: THEMIS BAR REVIEW Hangout.
I'm skimming the MBE outlines but actually reading the state outlines. I went to law school and took the bar in Michigan, and now I'm in PA and everything is different, so I'm trying to get the best handle on state law as I can.
I feel like the outlines are pretty decent. Barbri and Micromash and all the others have outlines that are just as long. For review purposes, though, I'm just looking at the worksheets and making flash cards for now.
Anyone else doing PA/NJ?

I have a full set of 2012 NY BarBri books. I think the Conviser will be a useful supplement.

Guh. Just did a Corporations essay and got seriously owned. I didn't do BA in law school so I'm hoping it's reflective of that rather than my general incompetence.

I love that after the Corporations lecture, the first essay is all about LLC's, which weren't covered at all in the Corporations lecture and are totally different and I have no fucking clue about them.
I messaged Themis about that, see what they say.

+billion. Seriously frustrating to have my very first essay, after listening to about 3 hours and reading for 1.5 hours, be something I've never heard about before.kalvano wrote:I love that after the Corporations lecture, the first essay is all about LLC's, which weren't covered at all in the Corporations lecture and are totally different and I have no fucking clue about them.

Yea, I've seen a torts essay covering Secured Transactions material pretty heavily and a property essay 90% of which deals with family law.kalvano wrote:I love that after the Corporations lecture, the first essay is all about LLC's, which weren't covered at all in the Corporations lecture and are totally different and I have no fucking clue about them.

You had the same essay then? I'll let you know what they say.
Also, was I right about the Corporations guy? Did you "appreciate" him?

Except I have no idea, I don't care about transactional, and I need Themis to tell me what the difference between Inc., P.A., P.C., LLC, and everything else is.HETPE3B wrote:Yea, I've seen a torts essay covering Secured Transactions material pretty heavily and a property essay 90% of which deals with family law.kalvano wrote:I love that after the Corporations lecture, the first essay is all about LLC's, which weren't covered at all in the Corporations lecture and are totally different and I have no fucking clue about them.

I don't think LLCs are all that different from Corporations. The primary difference is that they are pass through entities and so they don't pay corporate taxes (like partnerships).

According to the model answer they are. Members instead of shareholders, different rules about formation and directors, and what happens when interests are sold or assigned.

PA/NJ here as well. PA is the problem - so many unique and antiquated things. Looks like Jersey will be a breeze.

PA is pissing me off. The civ pro lectures alone are enough to make me want to move. Can't depose experts without a really good reason???? What the hell is that? Need to NOTICE people before subpoenaing a witness for documents? Jesus.geekrocker37 wrote:locusdelicti wrote:I'm skimming the MBE outlines but actually reading the state outlines. Haha. "What we need to do, is understand and appreciate...." Almost every new paragraph he said that. And I did have the exact same essay.kalvano wrote:Citizen Genet wrote:+billion. Some of these MBE questions are ticking me off. Just did one that basically came to a judgment call on whether the facts were sufficient for a specific legal standard. That's some crap questioning. But I guess it's good to get used to it now because it will almost certainly be on the real thing.

Re: THEMIS BAR REVIEW Hangout.
Hey everyone,
I saw that you had some questions regarding the TX practice essays. Please read the following message from our editorial attorneys.
The Texas Bar Examiners test Corporations, Partnerships, LLC's, Agency, etc. under the heading Business Associations. The examiners will often test more than one aspect of Business Associations in one question. I am sorry if the combination question came before you had greater time with the area of LLC's. You will have more time with the subject in Partnerships which is upcoming in your schedule. Once you finish it, you should be able to handle any Business Associations question the examiners send your way.
Thanks,
EJ
