You can take Barbri for free one more time if you fail. But this is only good once. Can't fail twice and take Barbri a third time without paying full price.
Also, those sending via media mail, did you get a box at usps or did you use one you had?

I do have that string of D's that people were talking about before, too.
My friends say they read every question. My friend who took it last year finished the session after 2 hours and passed.
I did the same thing. Definitely at least 30 questions in a row in the middle of the PM MBE where I just had no idea, couldn't narrow down to 50/50, and pretty much just guessed on.
I barely finished the PM MBE, too. When I got to the last page, I saw two questions and did the shorter one first. But then I accidentally bubbled in my answer for #200 as #199 on my scantron, and I had to erase and switch in 5 seconds before they called the time.
Thankfully, the MBE is such a blur now that I don't remember specifics--just the feeling of dread and fatigue and utter hopelessness while taking it. Unfortunately, I do remember my local day pretty well, and I've been having nightmares about it for the past week. I guess this is how my summer will end.

Saw this today, I wonder how much sway the ABA has in implementing new legislations.

The page with the info about mailing the books back won't load, and when I look for contact info, it logs me out of the site. wtf, Barbri.
I wanted to email them and ask if the books would be recycled.

I peeled the barcodes off the box I had and sent it back with that (all but the lectures book). It was ~$16 media mail. 26lbs 13oz.Mactx wrote:Also, those sending via media mail, did you get a box at usps or did you use one you had?

There are at least ten different versions, but questions are arranged in similar blocks relative to predetermined difficulty. Essentially, they offset the questions at ten different points. So Question Y, will always generally be in the middle of the prior/next question (e.g., XYZ). Source: I worked with a group who developed Standardized tests once upon a time. They did that to negate potential previous question bias in answer choices for subsequent questions.myrtlewinston wrote:Someone mentioned that there are 10 versions of the MBE (questions in different order). Hope that's right!reinbowbrite wrote:myrtlewinston wrote:I didn't get the line of Ds. Oops or different permutations?
I didn't either. Admittedly, I wasn't really paying attention to how many of a particular answer choice I had in a row, but I think if I had 10-12/15, it would've jumped out at me!
Are we allowed to say what version of the test we had for AM/PM?

Fascinating, how does a question bias work in a standardized test though? i.e. if you picked D for the previous question, you are more likely to think D is correct again?Arbinshire wrote: There are at least ten different versions, but questions are arranged in similar blocks relative to predetermined difficulty. Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
As far as I remember, they weren't concerned with the same answer choices running next to each other. Like the MBE, there was supposed to be a near equal distribution of answer choices once the test was completed. What they were primarily concerned with was the subject bias from previously asked questions. For example, if the previous question had you considering Fruit, they wanted that same sort of subject to be in the minds of all test takers when they next considered the intricacies of vegetables in a subsequent question, and any relative affect that would have on a Tomato as a possible answer choice. That sort of subject bias was supposed to be uniform amongst all test-takers for that specific version of the test, and is why instead they offset the questions rather than randomize their placement.kyle010723 wrote:Fascinating, how does a question bias work in a standardized test though? i.e. if you picked D for the previous question, you are more likely to think D is correct again?Arbinshire wrote: There are at least ten different versions, but questions are arranged in similar blocks relative to predetermined difficulty. Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
I posted this in the NY Forum, but I'm thinking it may be more appropriate here. In NY, you need a 133 scaled score to "pass" the MBE (133/200 = 66.5%), which means you need about a 118 raw score, or about 62% correct out of the 190 graded. Barbri's "goals" were as follows:
Refresher - 57/100 = 57%
Mixed set 1 - 31/100 = 62%
Mixed set 2 - 33/100 = 66%
Mixed set 3 - 33/100 = 66%
Mixed set 4 - 34/100 = 68%
They say that goal is based on the average performance of previous students so I'm assuming "goal" meant the average score. Does anyone know if this is correct, i.e., has anyone looked at the Barbri percentile rank for the target scores to see whether they are around the 50th percentile?
Anyway, if goal does mean the average score (50th percentile), it looks like the average person didn't have a lot of room for error just to pass. Is Barbri that confident that the average person will do better on the real MBE than on their practice tests? It sure doesn't seem as though the average person feels they did better.
The reason I'm concerned is I'm looking at it from the view of a person who got just around goal on all those mixed sets (almost always either a point below or a point above) and just a bit above goal on the refresher. I'm feeling okay on the essays, just worried about the MBE (and let's not even talk about the NYMC!).

The property lecturer we had in California was all OVER race-notice, pure race and notice statutes. But she was awful, if it was the same lady you might have zoned out.musicfor18 wrote:Yes, I remember one or two also, but they should be mentioned in the lecture.jaysnooginz wrote:I definitely had questions on the MPQ practice that had pure race statutes.musicfor18 wrote:Dear Barbri,
You might want to mention pure race recording statutes in your property lecture next year.

So is it possible to fail the MBE and pass the essays and still pass the bar? My state gives each of those equal weight.Barrister2015 wrote:ReachTheBar79 wrote:You guys, am I f'ed if on the hardest session of the mbe I didn't even get to 20 questions on the last column. Sigh. I am 80% sure I failed the bar.
At least NC comes out at the end of Aug.

Didn't finish all the essays. I had two essays where I barely wrote an analysis and rule statements. NC has 12 essays, counts for 60%. The others were either mediocre or subpar (mostly the latter). I just don't think I did well enough.ReachTheBar79 wrote:Why so sure?old_soul wrote:Sigh. I am 80% sure I failed the bar.At least NC comes out at the end of Aug.

Well, it means that you lost maybe 10 points if each essay is weighed equally. You have an additional 14 points. Plus, you may have done really well on the mbe. Yeah, definitely don't despair.
I know someone who failed when she got hung up on the second to last essay and didn't get to the last essay. But at the same time I know someone who passed when he had only a couple minutes left for the last two essays, glanced at the fact patterns and wrote something like "The law of equity favors the plaintiff here" on one and "Husband and wife each get what the judge thinks is just and right" on the other.

Is it possible to completely miss a sub-issue or two in an essay and still receive a 50+ score?

Yes. It's also possible to miss an essay prompt and do well. It's also possible to not complete all your essays and rack up enough points to pass.ovxsny27 wrote:Is it possible to completely miss a sub-issue or two in an essay and still receive a 50+ score?

Are you guys sending your books back and then just requesting them back if you fail? I haven't looked into this much. I see the deadline is September 4th.
Edit: I see you get your $250 back if you send them, but pay another $250 deposit back if you want your books back.
