Here's something that bugged me, and I'd like to know what you guys think in case I have to do this nightmare again in Feb. If the call of a question asks what a party' strongest argument would be, are we supposed to assume each of the choices could be proved?

Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
That makes me feel better. I had like 10 Ds out of 12 questions (or something around there) on one of them. And definitely didn't have time to finish 1-2 questions on each session. Made the huge mistake of going to the bathroom midway through the AM. Didn't realize the second half would be harder than the first.konar wrote:ReachTheBar79 wrote:So I am one of those people who had several D's. I also had a similar stretch of 12 questions that I answered 10 with DRaleighStClair wrote:That makes me feel better. I had like 10 Ds out of 12 questions (or something around there) on one of them. Hey all,
Just feeling kind of low over my Essays, needless to say the MBE was crushing enough. I didn't finish my essays properly, probably at least 4 out of12 were partially complete. Ran out of time. Sniff. I feel like I set myself up for failure.
Fml. Does anyone have disaster stories they've heard of where people still passed?

Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
So, I'll preface this with saying that, yes, I felt really bad about today. I was more time-crunched and unsure about more questions than I typically have been (aside from maybe a couple of those BarBri Set 6s).
I don't know how many of you did the Emanuel 200q set, but if you did: Did you really feel that today was that much harder than that? Put aside all the feelings you might have from not being able to immediately grade, having the pressure of the actual exam over you, etc.
If I'm being truly honest with myself, I felt like shit, but I think it was probably on par with the Emanuel exam pre-grading. And from personal experience, and from hearing about all your guys'/girls' experiences with that one, we did a lot better than we expected.
I'm going to knock on as much wood as I can here, but I really think that 5ky's experience (actual MBE being in between his BarBri midterm and Emanuel 200 - but much closer to the Emanuel) is where most of us are going to end up.

Also I've had like 6 beers since the exam so maybe that's why I'm feeling so optimistic.

My friend took it in July 2014 and said that she literally felt like she knew about 15 questions. She passed with a 157 scaled score.old_soul wrote:Hey all,

I honestly thought the questions "felt" more like Barbri than Emanuel. Substances on the other hand, Barbri was pretty off base.

How the fuck is an exam full of gotcha questions a test of minimal competency to practice law.

fwiw, I also thought that the questions "felt" exactly like barbri questions, except harder. When i was doing practice i did much better on the emmanuel questions than on the barbri question. As somebody mentioned above, i scored better than i was doing on barbri (generally) and slightly worse than i did on emmanuel.kyle010723 wrote:I honestly thought the questions "felt" more like Barbri than Emanuel. i would say i scored about 25 points higher than i was comfortably projecting for myself after having taken the exam

Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
Minimal competency is a lie. Most of us will never practice law that was tested on the MBE subjects. If its minimal competency, prosecutor should only take crim, transaction should only take BA, etc.Learned Throw Hands wrote:How the fuck is an exam full of gotcha questions a test of minimal competency to practice law.
I doubt most of us will ever touch tort or crim or property unless that's your area

Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
I agree the felt like Barbri questions. However, there were a lot of questions where I felt multiple answers were correct (a few were basically the same answers) and questions where I felt none were correct.kyle010723 wrote:I honestly thought the questions "felt" more like Barbri than Emanuel. Some of the topics Babri said were the "big ticket items" were barely tested. There were barely any questions on the statute of frauds, option contracts, individual rights (in the levels of scrutiny sense), character evidence, subject matter jurisdiction, standing, landlord-tenant law, etc. I think Barbri was pretty close on point to the torts questions asked on the MBE but besides that the rest were a little off from what I expected. I guess I spent a week learning corporations, trusts, and conflict of laws for like two multiple choice questions.

Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
Someone mentioned this, but it almost seemed like it was testing a logic game + law. Sigh. If you didn't identify the logic game with the law, you picked the wrong choice. I'd get super suspicious of anything that jumped out or seemed a gimme. I fear though I may have over-thought the gimme-qs as well.
And yes, I think the Board has re-apportioned what's being tested. We spent so much time on future interests with Barbri! I feel like 50% of the qs were either direct mortgage questions or tangentially related property questions.

Same here. There was one spot where I answered 8 of 9 questions with D, and something like 12 of 15.konar wrote:ReachTheBar79 wrote:So I am one of those people who had several D's. Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
Overall, to me it felt like the first 50 from the Emanuel full MBE (my worst section). A few were easy, a few were hard, but most just left me unsure of any way to fully decide between several choices. However, I feel like there was a torts question yesterday that was essentially the exact same question that I missed in Emanuel.

Re: BarBri Bar Review Hangout - July 2015 Exam
I took the VA bar 3 years ago and MBE yesterday felt harder but not significantly so. I also studied a lot less this time time around so that probably contributed to the bad feeling yesterday ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
