Credit cards, etc., aren't on the list of prohibited items, either. I'm bringing my fucking wallet and Metrocard and I'm not leaving in the "personal belongings room." I'm already annoyed I have to leave my laptop unattended in the Javits center during lunch.

As I said, credit card/cash/metrocard/hotel ID or your walmart fidelity card are permitted. Took the bar twice in two different location, it's fine. No worries.
During the break, I haven't heard of any laptop stolen or damaged, do not worry.
I'd love to give you more advice since I passed last Feb' as a retaker but with the new test format, I can"t really say anything apart that write the conclusion first of the mpt please. And because because because x1000 for each essay. I'm dead serious about it.
However, since the MBE is now worth 50% of the final grade, I highly advise you to focus on this part, a scaled MBE of 140 will guarantee you to pass.

Out of curiosity, why do you say 140 scaled on MBE is guarantee pass? according to http://www.seperac.com/zcalc-ube-j16.php, even with a 146 you have to get a 6 on all essays and MPTs to pass... is a 6 just super easy to get?iwantmybar wrote:As I said, credit card/cash/metrocard/hotel ID or your walmart fidelity card are permitted. Thanks! I'll bring my credit card/cash. Just thought it was weird that it wasn't specifically listed. I took the Florida bar a couple years ago and it was. Also, based on my experience in Florida, there will be no problems with leaving your laptop there at lunch. If you feel a bit concerned, make sure you require a password to unlock your screen.iwantmybar wrote:As I said, credit card/cash/metrocard/hotel ID or your walmart fidelity card are permitted. I think it has more to do with the fact that with a 140 scaled MBE to pass, you only need 126 points from the writing section, which is less than 30th percentile for writing scoreshellojd wrote:Out of curiosity, why do you say 140 scaled on MBE is guarantee pass? according to http://www.seperac.com/zcalc-ube-j16.php, even with a 146 you have to get a 6 on all essays and MPTs to pass... is a 6 just super easy to get?iwantmybar wrote:As I said, credit card/cash/metrocard/hotel ID or your walmart fidelity card are permitted. Where did you find that? The Seperac calculator says you have to get straight 6s with a 146. Is 5 and below bottom 30 percentile? I can't find any good info on that.HankBashir wrote:I think it has more to do with the fact that with a 140 scaled MBE to pass, you only need 126 points from the writing section, which is less than 30th percentile for writing scoreshellojd wrote:Out of curiosity, why do you say 140 scaled on MBE is guarantee pass? according to http://www.seperac.com/zcalc-ube-j16.php, even with a 146 you have to get a 6 on all essays and MPTs to pass... is a 6 just super easy to get?iwantmybar wrote:As I said, credit card/cash/metrocard/hotel ID or your walmart fidelity card are permitted. I can't remember where I read this, so take it with a grain of salt (or maybe somebody else here can confirm), but AFAIK, to put the writing half on a 200 point scale, they scale the writing scores to the MBE, so you can look at last year's MBE percentiles to get a rough idea of where certain scores lie.Mlk&Ckies wrote: Where did you find that? I haven't found the seperac calculator useful because it A) doesn't take this into account and B) I did Barbri which graded our essays out of 6, so I have no idea how this even correlates to the actual grading scale out of 10, so the numbers are actually pretty meaningless to me

Re: NY July 2016 Thread
If someone has a good explanation of how the essays are graded, that would be cool. I got myself kinda worked up using that Seperac calculator as well. I thought I was doing well enough on the MBE that I could do pretty poorly on the essays but it doesn't look that way to me.HankBashir wrote:I can't remember where I read this, so take it with a grain of salt (or maybe somebody else here can confirm), but AFAIK, to put the writing half on a 200 point scale, they scale the writing scores to the MBE, so you can look at last year's MBE percentiles to get a rough idea of where certain scores lie.Mlk&Ckies wrote: Where did you find that? Re: NY July 2016 Thread
I said 140 is auto pass because last feb' I subscribed to it and Joe Seperac always insisted on that, he said sth along that among the failing scores he received, 95% had a score <140. He said that if you score 140, you'll likely pass.
And I trust that guy.
Regarding the essays, the grading isn't super hard. Imo, it's "easy" ro reach a 5.5 (which is good ). First time I failed, I remember scoring well on essays I was sure I bombed....
But again, I took the old ny bar so to be fair, you guys should focus on the MBE because it's 50% now.

Is anyone familiar with how intense the traffic/parking situation will be in Buffalo? I'm going to be at an Airbnb that's about 10m away from the test center by car / 30m away by bus. Trying to decide if I should rent a car in Buffalo or take the bus, but if it's gonna be really stressful to find parking etc., might just go w the bus.

I second all this conundrum about the seperac calculator. It just changed within the last few weeks and now has me so freaked out

You need 266 combined mbe and essay. 110 on the essay portion is pretty horrible. When I took il in 13 that was way below bottom 1%. But the recent administration it was bottom 3%. So you can basically score a 156 mbe and be in the bottom 3% of essay writers. Remember that includes people who panic and leave shit blank.
You also have to remember half of the essays will be either mpt or have topics that that mbe covers. You should be able to rock those. I'd say 155 is basically auto pass, but I'd be shocked if anyone who actually gets a 150 and make a solid attempt on every essay fails.
Remember if you get to a topic you don't know. Make up a rule that sounds correct and apply it. That gets you better than bottom 3% on that question.
I'd agree with separax that above 140 is pretty good but you can't shit up the essays at 140. But someone getting 140 tends not to shit up the essays. My 155 auto pass means you could skin the family law, Wills and estate, etc and just wing them on the real day.

The test is on Tuesday or something right? Unless you are doing 160 scaled on mbe questions; I'd pretty much focus on that until test day.

I know people are still anxious about the exam, and not the results at this point, but do you guys think our results will come quicker now that its the UBE? Or do you think that they'll take the same 90 day-ish timeframe?

It lists 12:30-2 but I've heard that it gets cut into quite a bit by them collecting/checking books & scantrons, during which time you can't leave. So, actual time for lunch could be considerably less.Br3v wrote:How long is our lunch break?
