Thanks. Barbri led us (or at least me) to believe it was 1-5. So on a 1-10, is a 7 passing?

Hi,AndroidLawyer wrote:For the people taking it in NYC that knows the area of the test center, is there affordable food options in the area? I'm still trying to decide whether I should just buy their lunch.
Took the bar in NYC in july'15 and I finally passed in Albany last feb.
Honestly, I didn't pick up the food option because it was clearly too much expensive and it didn't look that great. Plus, there was a line from what I remember.
I remember walking around a block or two (I basically followed a shit ton of other test takers) and there was a grocery store with fresh food ( I went for rice and lamb ). It was pretty good and the line wasn't huge. I had plenty of time to eat. It's NYC, even though Javitz center is kind at the edge of the city, if you walk like 5 or 10mn, you'll find sth. Albany takers, there is a subway (or a mcdonald ? ) at the test center but it will crowded for sure.
Anyway, wether you pick the food option or wether you decide to get some food by yourself, don't panic, you'll have plenty of time.
Also, on a side note, I took the bar two times (NYC / Albany ) and debit card, watch (not digital though), water, hotel ID card, cash, ID and some food (you had to open it lol ) were allowed. Just don't bring your phone, even in your pocket because while nobody is going to check your pocket, if you go the restroom , you could be accused of cheating if a proctor notices your phone through your jean. And put your pencil down when the proctor calls for the end of the exam. The guy next to me kept bubbling one or two questions for like 1 or 2 sc, and one of the proctor just told him to stop and that he was very lucky of not being reported. They are super serious about it. I hope he passed, who knows.
Javitz was pretty freezing so take a sweater because of the AC.
Laptop people, please, do not bring a dying computer. If your battery is shit, it's totally fine, there are plugs everywhere so it's fine. But you'll be clearly fucked if you laptop dies. And when you'll be done , UPLOAD your essays, don't forget, every year some people just forget it........UPLOAD.
Don't forget your earplugs because with everyone typing, sneezing etc, there will be no real silence.
For the test itself, i have one advice that you should all follow : write the conclusion of the MPT first because if you run out of time, your met will appear done. And for each essay, write the magic word "because" as much as you can . Rule + facts and then "John will likely be convicted of arson 1st degree because etc.... so because of this , there was arson 1st degree".
On the test day, you can bring your notes and stuff because you'll be there early and there will be a line so you 'll be able to read some stuff. You will just have to throw them away in a bin.
Best of luck to everyone. Re-takers, you also can do it

That much noisier than law school exams with a bunch of people typing? Or is it the same idea? If you use earplugs in law school, then you should use them for the Bar and vice versa?iwantmybar wrote:Hi,AndroidLawyer wrote:For the people taking it in NYC that knows the area of the test center, is there affordable food options in the area? It is much more noiser because there will be like a thousand people in the room
Just buy a pair of earplugs it's like $2 and then you'll decide if you want it or not

I'll probably bring just in case, but I've always found earplugs to make the problem worse, as it causes ringing in my head.iwantmybar wrote:It is much more noiser because there will be like a thousand people in the room![]()

I mean, it's noisier, but it's still the same type of noise that would fade into the background, no? There aren't that many strange wired keyboard making unusually different noise? It's just more people typing and what-not?

Any pharmacy or drugstore like Walgreens, Duane Reade, Rite Aid, etc. My law school library hands them out for free so maybe if you're still in school or know someone still at school you can ask them to pick up an extra pair for you?ChocolateTruffle wrote:Could you please tell me where I can buy ear plugs from? I, personally, am a huge fan of earplugs (never used them before law school haha). If they start to bother me I just take them out for a little.

Would I be crazy to not study Partnership? Learned it during the general bar prep and did an essay on it on a practice exam, but it just seems like it's almost definitely not going to be on our Bar.

why do you say that?whitecollar23 wrote:Would I be crazy to not study Partnership? Learned it during the general bar prep and did an essay on it on a practice exam, but it just seems like it's almost definitely not going to be on our Bar.
and i think its worth doing 30 minutes over the main points - formation of general partnership, duties, exposure to torts / liabilities, sharing of profits /liabilities, how to end - dissociation / dissolution / winding up / termination etc.

Based on patterns in previous years. Been tested twice in a row once since '07, and that was in '12 when they still had like 8 MEE questions tested.

Any TLSers taking the test in Buffalo & staying downtown Wednesday night interested in grabbing some beers/food somewhere and not talking about the exam? My flight out isn't until Thursday morning.

Re: NY July 2016 Thread
I'm flying into Buffalo on Monday and trying to make a flight out of the city at 7:10p on Wednesday. I'm bringing only a small carry-on bag (backpack or duffel bag) and I'm hoping to bring it to the test site and leave it in the "personal belongings room" so I can go straight to the airport. Does anyone familiar with Buffalo know whether they'll allow me to store a bag of this size at the CC (or is it limited to laptop cases, purses, coats, and other really small items)? Or should I plan to leave it at my not-so-nearby hotel and add time to my mad dash to the airport?

I'm not taking it in Buffalo but that is going to be one hell of a mad dash to the airport. Doesn't the exam end at 5:30? Unless you finish early, you won't be out of the test center until 6-615 the latest.raptors_delight wrote:I'm flying into Buffalo on Monday and trying to make a flight out of the city at 7:10p on Wednesday. I don't know what I was thinking. I'm planning to use my best efforts to make the flight, but assuming that I'm going to end up sleeping in a Waffle House and paying $800 to get the last seat on a shitty flight with four layovers the next day.
Pretty sure the exam ends at 5. Unless it's different out of NYC, and if so, I'm jealous y'all get to start later.

It ends at 5 p.m., but you have to sit there while the proctors collection, count, and recount the testing books and scantrons. It can take 20-45 minutes. Same is true for the session before lunch, so the lunch break isn't actually as long as advertised.whitecollar23 wrote:raptors_delight wrote:Yeah.LionelHutzJD wrote:I'm not taking it in Buffalo but that is going to be one hell of a mad dash to the airport. They have electronic ones in the back of the room. There was always a line to use them during breaks. I brought my own and used it during breaks. No one said anything, but I also had a nice proctor.allthelaw wrote:allthelaw wrote:Albany taker....

Cash/credit card isn't listed under the permitted items. Can we really not bring that?! Anyone have any insight into the security of the personal belongings room? I wasn't planning on leaving anything there (because when I took the Florida bar it was literally an empty room with no security, etc.), but I was definitely hoping to buy a coffee before the afternoon session.
