I really wish I had taken more than two weeks to buckle down and do this thing; I was banking on a strong curve like last year's and obviously that's not going to happen. Should probably order another copy of my birth certificate in case I need to send one off with the next application.
If it makes you feel any better, re-applying for the Texas Bar is a very simple process, they keep everything you already sent. You just fill out a short form online, pay the fee, which is 300-something, and pick your preferred sites. You'll have 30 days to do the re-apply.
That does make me feel better, actually. Thanks! So, I wouldn't be on the hook for another $1,000?
Also, do they send you a score breakdown?
They don't send you your raw scores, but they send you your scaled scores on each section and your total score in the mail. (The pass list just has names and applicant numbers, no scores.) It usually takes a couple of days to arrive in the mail (if you're in Texas). No, you won't be on the hook for another grand for the application fee, and they hold spots for retakers for the next bar. (In this case February.)
If you're re-taking, I highly recommend the Baylor site. It's a much more comfortable room to take the bar in, and they provide you with lunch so you don't have to leave to eat.
The re-apply process is very simple, so don't worry about that before scores come out. You can just wait for the pass list in anxiety like the rest of us, haha.
Also, Texas does allow for a review process that is pretty helpful, because you get to meet face to face with the bar examiners and the people who actually write the essay question and their advice can be very helpful. If you went to an in-state law school you can only get an informal review in the mail, which is just some written breakdowns of the questions. If you fail twice and are in-state or failed once and are out-of-state, you can get a formal review where you sit down with them face to face. They have your essays in front of them and can help you figure out where you went wrong and how you can give more effective answers. I found it helpful when I went.
