Passed - 309
MBE 150.7
Passed in another state last year and my MBE was higher. I believe 154 or 155. So I was kind of surprised to see the drop since I felt more prepared this time around.
Here's my advice:
I had a full time job while taking both and didn't use any course this time but did use Kaplan's material. I did take NY once before the other state bar while using barbri and failed (was my fault too because I didn't take it seriously). But I still advise people to not use Barbri especially if they're working. Kaplan will grade unlimited essays and on your time and schedule, unlike barbri. So if you need to take another course, do Kaplan, but if you already have all the material, may not need to take another course.
First, create your own schedule! I started studying 2 months before each exam. Created my own schedule and revised it every week based on my progress. A month from the exam, I also took into consideration my strengths and weakenesses in tailoring my schedule.
For the MBE, absolutely purchase Emmanuel's strategies and tactics for the MBE and use it often. Regularly. Religiously. Great advice in each sub-section. In addition, purchase the real mbes from ncbe (I didn't but that's because I didn't have the time).
Create your own outlines for each subject from the review books, NOT the lectures- forget the lectures. Focus mainly on the MBE subjects. Make your flashcards!! And closer to exam, record yourself reading these flashcards and listen to the recordings when driving, showering, etc.
For the written portion, create a template that you strictly follow so that during the exam, you automatically organize your thoughts without having to think about the substantive material. The night before, I wrote out how each section of the mpt would look for me. And it was basic enough pattern that I was able to apply it to everything. But even having a simple pattern is so helpful when your strapped for time.
I feel like I'm babbling and this is just the results section.
Sorry! Point is become one with the exam and forget everyone else, even forget about this forum. And whoever didn't pass will succeed next time!!!
