It appears he did skip over a lot of stuff. The homework assigned afterward was also a ridiculous amount. I hope this isn't the case throughout the course. Torts has been frustrating so far--to say the least.myrtlewinston wrote:Torts (Barbri)
Has anyone taken the Torts Diagnostic yet? The lecturer seems to have skimmed over certain topics. Eg. Assumption of Risk. Any advice on where to turn ib order to make an outline/flashcards? The Conviser isn't exactly mini. Thanks!

He also skipped things that the Worker's Comp and No-Fault Diagnostics tested.

Did anyone actually hit the 72% goal for the Barbri torts workshop? That was not good for my mental well being.

Yeah I also don't really understand how the grading works. Can anyone explain what the approx what to shoot for across each section?HLBE689 wrote:I know I saw this somewhere but I cannot find it - approximately what % correct on MBE questions is ideal to shoot for (obviously the more right the better, but I am talking the minimum we should be shooting for at the very least). Where did you get this 72% target score from? I don't see that anywhere in my BarBri materials.scaliaantics wrote:Did anyone actually hit the 72% goal for the Barbri torts workshop? That was not good for my mental well being.

Is there a way to verify (even after those emails) that Softest is good to go?
I successfully downloaded and took the mock exam and submitted it. Does that mean it's good?

Re: July 2015 NY Bar MEGATHREAD
Kaplan NY started today. Watched the ~2.5 hr vid (1.5x) on the MPT. They guided us through a sample MPT problem, and told us to write the memo portion as homework, but I'm not sure whether I'll actually do that. I may just read the model answer instead, since they want us to do a second MPT problem on our own (with an accompanying video).
Edit: Meh, gave it a shot. Didn't go so amazingly. I didn't realize how much they wanted us to regurgitate the rules (at least for this senior partner memo), which I guess isn't a difficult fix. I also didn't do a great job of applying the law, but I'm hoping it goes better a second time.

Checking in.
I'm on day one of barbri for NY and already bored.
Do I actually have to watch these god forsaken lectures? Can I just read outlines?

Well just did my first full MPT practice test. Don't think it went so well. I wrote 2 pages single spaced, and had about 8 minutes leftover. Turns out I missed a couple of issues (one of them I identified but dismissed as too small to write about - I guess that's a mistake) and ended up coming up with a completely DIFFERENT conclusion than the Kaplan model answer. Yikes. I hope they're more concerned with form/finishing/etc than the answer itself. Feels bad man.

On exam soft: Do we only have to submit one of the practice exams or all 3? There were 3 files, the PW only worked for one of them.

There's only one practice exam. The other two files are the actual exams that you'll use the day of the test.AReasonableMan wrote:On exam soft: Do we only have to submit one of the practice exams or all 3? There were 3 files, the PW only worked for one of them.

After doing two lectures of Civ Pro, I'm just starting to realize how much information we're going to have to remember. I feel like I'm retaining so little at this point

Freer hinted that his notes are sufficient. What do you think?orangecup wrote:After doing two lectures of Civ Pro, I'm just starting to realize how much information we're going to have to remember. I feel like I'm retaining so little at this point

freers notes were sufficient with a few days of studying to get through LS civ pro, im sure for the bar itll be OK. similar to evidence, there are a few basic things to just "know".
Question- how many words, on average, are NY essays supposed to be?

Doing Kaplan, but the prof's notes seemed pretty good. I distilled them in an OL of roughly 10 pgs. Might be on the long side, but I can always cut it down later. The lecture definitely missed some nuances that I'm finding in MBE practice Qs, but I'm simply going back and adding those to my OL. It helps with the learning process.victortsoi wrote:freers notes were sufficient with a few days of studying to get through LS civ pro, im sure for the bar itll be OK. similar to evidence, there are a few basic things to just "know".

The model answers typically seem to be a couple pages long, so I imagine not incredibly long. I just copy-pasted some random model answers into word, and they ranged anywhere from 800 to 1400 words.

I'm doing barbri, and there isn't much outlining, mostly filling in handouts. I like that system, mostly because I never outlined in law school, dont want to start now. I learn more from doing questions, and also bought critical pass flashcards. I guess everyone is different.

Is anyone else having issue with Barbri handouts? My Fed. Civ. Pro. lecture handouts are out of order. The pages jump from 41/42 to 45/45 to 43/44; and it has happened in a few other pages of the Civ Pro handouts.
I don't have a problem reprinting the handout, I'm just curious if this is an issue with everyone's lecture handouts or is an isolated thing.
Thanks!
Edit: Never mind, I see the notification that there was a printing error.

Headline: FEDERAL CIVIL PROCEDURE HANDOUT
Message:
Due to a printing error, the Federal Civil Procedure handout in the New York Handout Volume contains several pages out of order. We recommend using the fillable PDF handout found in the lower-right corner of the lecture video window when watching Federal Civil Procedure. Paper copies will be made available at course locations for those students who prefer using a paper copy. If you have not regularly been attending your course location, please call the NY office if you would like a paper copy mailed to you
