Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
Are you guys trying to memorize already? I made flash cards for con law and did an outline for criminal law, which I went over before at the library. However, I still need to go back to con law and could not take in most of the info from crim law ( my crim law class apparently did not cover a majority of this stuff). I feel like I'm already falling far behind and did not do well at all on the Con law study smart questions yesterday.

Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
I plan to use flash cards but I haven't started making them yet. I do feel like I'm falling behind because I missed a class due to graduation...there's just so much work they assign and yea, I know we're not expected to finish it all. I have a friend who passed last year and used Themis. He swears he only needed 3 weeks of pure studying to pass. Not sure I buy it so I'm sticking to the pace program outlined for us lol.AJS30 wrote:Are you guys trying to memorize already? Just to make sure I'm not doing the BarBri paced program incorrectly, we have not yet been assigned practice questions to do, correct? Are we suppose to wait for the program to assign them to us or do we just go into the book and do them on our own? Are all of the questions they provide assigned as part of the program or do we have some available as extras?

There were questions assigned over the weekend in Studysmart. I'm curious what others are doing as far as extra practice questions too. So far I have just followed the Paced ProgramTLSNYC wrote:Just to make sure I'm not doing the BarBri paced program incorrectly, we have not yet been assigned practice questions to do, correct? I think from today going forward from what I saw we will be assigned practice questions everyday. Not sure if we are assigned all the questions or if there will be extras. I haven't really been doing the AMPs, as I find them annoying.....but maybe I shouldn't be skipping out on those?

Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
I am glad to see I am not the only one who thinks this is a ton of work.
I have been really bad about reviewing the notes. My first approach was to make flash cards, but that is taking way too long, especially for the topics like Crim Pro. I like the re-writing the notes idea someone mentioned, maybe I will try that. That is sort of how I studied in law school, and it worked out pretty well for me; handwritten class notes --> type up class notes (while editing to get rid of duplicate info) --> outline --> shorter outline. Although for the bar I think I will just type up the notes.

I found Critical Pass flashcards and they seem pretty helpful. There's space for you to write down notes too. Not enough time to be doing all the things you did in law school so need to find shortcuts if possible.

Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
If there any past NY takers that happen to look at this forum- can you please share how you broke your day down.
I did the crim pro video from 9:30-12:30, took an hour lunch break, then from 1:30-3:30 typed up my Crim Pro notes, but I'm still not done doing that. Still need to review the notes (I thought typing them up would help me review, but it's not doing anything for me), do the assigned MBE questions, will want to watch the review lecture and then outline the essay assigned.
I don't want to be lazy about this, but maybe typing up the notes/making flash cards is not a good idea?

Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
I was just wondering that myself. I am making my own shortened outlines (6 pages per topic) and its taking me ages. I don't want to stop doing that as this is how I learn - but if some of you past takers happen to have old outlines, I could work on editing them and save precious time. Anyone willing to share old outlines?

Anybody have any idea of about how well we have to do on the NY MC portion to be in good shape for passing? Is it the same as the multistate?

A buddy of mine who took it last year just told me to focus on the AMPs and Lectures. He also advised that I abandon the Conviser because it is much too broad and includes more stuff than I need. Has anyone else heard this or felt this way [past test takers]?

Interested in this as well. Finding it difficult to keep up with the CMR readings in the paced program.anon919 wrote:A buddy of mine who took it last year just told me to focus on the AMPs and Lectures. Just get like 25/50 and you'll be okay. I strongly recommend not bothering to study for these. There's not much material out there on them. Just learn the ny material for the essays and enough will carry over.jets526 wrote:Anybody have any idea of about how well we have to do on the NY MC portion to be in good shape for passing? Can you guys check your bar review lectures list to see what you have posted? I have Evidence I and Corporations I. But it should be Evidence I and Evidence II. Just wondering if it is just me or if the live classes got switched around for some reason. Thanks

When I click on Evidence I for June 5 (Thursday) and Evidence II for June 6 (Friday), both lectures load correctly. I do not have Corporations I listed.

These evidence lectures are particularly brutal (online). I thought the crim law prof was really, really good.

Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
All the lecture handouts are in the book titled (somewhat misleadingly) "NY Handouts." The MBE subjects are grouped together in the back.salvage wrote:So these are only online and not in the materials Barbri sent? Odd that they would give printed versions of the NY lecture handouts but not the MS.anon919 wrote:There is definitely a lecture handout for MS Con Law I that has already been uploaded on the site. I just quickly accessed.salvage wrote:Quick question: Obviously the box includes the NY Lecture handouts to fill in when following the online lectures, but are there supposed to be lecture handouts for the MS lectures as well? For example, on Wednesday I'm supposed to start by watching the MS Con Law I class, but I don't see any handouts to use to follow along. Am I supposed to just take my own notes? Or follow the MS Outline book? Something else?
Under "Bar Review Lectures" it should be the last column on the right hand side of the screen where "MS Con Law I" is listed.

So what kind of scores are you getting on the New York Distinction Multiple Choice questions for the MBE subjects? I did ok on the crim, but just got a 50 on the evidence multiple choice (online program).

The Barbri NYMC practice questions are not even close to being representative of what the actual questions are like. I don't even know of any good practice questions out there, because it's not really worth studying for all that much.5ky wrote:Just get like 25/50 and you'll be okay. What are the NYMC like? For some reason I imagined them to be a lot on NY Practice, but I'm probably not right.5ky wrote:prs362 wrote:So what kind of scores are you getting on the New York Distinction Multiple Choice questions for the MBE subjects? Given the practice test I just completed, I am clinging to this.5ky wrote:

They are short and to the point. It's not like the MBE where there's a decently long fact pattern with red herrings. I thought it was much more of a straight-up, do you know the rule for X? If so, you'll get this question right in 5 seconds. If not, guess in 5 seconds and move on.AJS30 wrote:

Anyone know the essay grading scale Barbri uses. I'm assuming it's out of 100 but not sure what a good score is.

Re: BarBri - NY Exam - July 2014
Jets: 1-10 or 1-100, depending on the grader you get. I think the goal is to get around ~5/6 or ~50-60 on every essay on the exam to have the average passing score.
Unrelated q: how are people studying the NY distinctions? I've been making my outlines kind of like the crim pro lecturer's by adding NY distinctions in a box right after the MS rule. It's getting kind of cluttered though and I'm not sure if it's better to just memorize the distinctions supplement?
