I was just kidding. Someone convinced me back in the day that if Boalt admitted you off the waitlist, they would put an asterisk next to your name in the student directory.

Hi to all,

Congratulations on those who passed!

And so sorry for those who didn't make it - it's a very hard test (much harder than NY in my experience).

Question regarding the ceremony:

do we need the Admission package, or anything enclosed in it? or can we just show up at the ceremony and give your name, file number etc?

I'm flying to CA soon, and I doubt I'll receive my package by Dec. 3 (I live abroad).

If anyone can shed some light on this process, many thanks!

Cheers,

There's a registration card in there that I think you need at your swearing in, because it has a space for a notary stamp on it. Maybe you can get it elsewhere, though?

I think you can call the bar and ask if you can pick up an oath card at one of their offices. Give them a call to see.

I called them but the girl who takes care of that stuff was not picking up, so I left a message. And given that I had to wait quite a while to even get someone on the phone, I think I'll wait for tomorrow to call again, once things calm down.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

Not the most accurate since scaling changes every time but I input the above to get a 1308 with 117 on the MBE. You want to be 130 at minimum, ideally 135+.

However, those 50-55s on the essays could also use improvement. She also has no "passing" score (i.e., 65 or over) in the written sections. Perhaps the way she's studying for and answering essays is problematic?

I would suggest changing her overall study approach.

Which prep company did she use? What was her study regimen like? Any preliminary plans for the next round?

For all you 3-day and 2-day applicants, let me know your thoughts on my earlier question on whether I should take the 3-day or the 2-day again. My scores are all over the place and your input would be greatly appreciated.
Essay 1 - 50
Essay 2 - 60
Essay 3 - 55
Essay 4 - 65
Essay 5 - 50
Essay 6 - 55
Essay 7 - 70
Essay 8 - 60
As stated earlier, I took the two day exam. My raw written was 595 and my scaled was 1380.8910 (1 read only). Thanks for your input.

Anybody who passed and has received their packet what to indulge those of us at work with no patience? (and those who live far enough away as to not get it today)

What's inside and what's the essential 4-11?

"Congrats! Don't forget about MCLE! And do pro bono--you want to reflect well on lawyers, don't you? Oh, and here's a registration card and a print-out of the 'information for successful applicants' page from the Cal Bar website! Now go get sworn in somewhere."

Oh, and of course the wooden gavel with bronze trim and your name engraved in the handle.

...

The gavel is wishful thinking. There is only paper.

ok. Well if you had also gotten a 70 on the PT2 you would have had a 615 and passed. The 70 you got on the first one shows that it is not an issue with understanding how to do a PT. So I would start there. I think the PTs are the easier place to pick up points because it isn't about remembering rule statements. Did you feel rushed for time on the 2nd one? Or was the fact pattern confusing?

And what do you think happened on the Torts essay. I dunno how I did but I felt like that an easier one to get points on if you knew the basic rules for negligence and negligence per se, etc. That would have been picked up in the course of studying Torts for the MBE as well. I think prepping for the MBE can help you with the rule statement stuff for the essays.

But really figure out on those low scores what was going on. Was it a problem with not being able to remember the rules, or not spotting issues, or time management? Once you figure that out you can decide whether you believe your essay issues are correctable. If so then take the essay portion alone again.. But know you will have to study Civ Pro anyway because that could be an essay question.

I chose the 3 day exam and focused on the MBE in my studies. But like everyone else I thought the 2nd half was written in Greek and felt like I guessed on the majority of questions after eliminating 2 answer choices. But my score advisory says I got at least a 145 scaled score. I will never know how much I needed the MBE in order to pass. But it seems to me that it did help

You get the exact same thing that they have online under "Succesful Applicants" plus a card that you use to do the oath, a yellow sheet explaining the oath, insurance advertisements, and an IOLTA info pamphlet.

Dang, looks like you just missed it. Your written raw was 612.5..you needed 2.5 more points. In the past the California MBE scaled has been the NCBE scale score times 10. Sounds like you got 142 or 143 scaled score. You were probably 2-3 raw score questions away from a passing scaled California MBE score. You were so close. Sorry. You did well enough to deserve to pass. Maybe you ran into crappy first read graders? are any of your first reads higher than the 2nd?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
