Re: MD February 2016 Exam
Amazing -- I think all of the active people on this forum passed? AMAZING! I'm so happy for all of us. This is crazy. No way I read mine wrong because there was about 4 passes before and after me. It was really strange...

Edit: SHIT! SORRY that you didn't pass. It sucks, but don't let this get you down. Only a few months until the next exam. YOU CAN DO IT.

I'm still kinda in shock. I feel like a new person. akcheat and anyone else on here who didn't do it this time--you'll do it. Many many people have had to take this thing more than once or twice. I'm here if anyone wants to reach out--happy to discuss what I did differently this time around.

I passed! I took Themis. If anyone on here is interested in my Themis books (and binders consisting of the short hand outs) I would be happy to mail them to you (for free) or meet up, if someone could use them!

I'm doing Themis for the July exam - did you like using it? Any shortcomings with Themis / things you wish you'd known etc.?waitingonresults wrote:I passed! I took Themis. Anyone that didn't pass- I failed the first bar exam I ever took. Seemed really rough at the time, but life turned out great. I think I had a really good study strategy for the MD test, if you want some ideas for how I tackled it, feel free to reach out!

I really liked Themis - mainly because I know myself better than anyone else and therefore cannot deal with strict study schedules - I know where my weaknesses are. One of the biggest things I didnt know existed until the end was the listening to lectures on 1.5x speed. It would have saved SO much time! I did every single essay that Themis provided (essays are worth more in MD) and did about 900 multiple choice (they give you over 2,000). I finished about 80 percent of the program. I thought it was a great program overall.

Also failed the first bar exam I ever took, and just passed MD first try. I really changed the way I studied this time, and used Themis both times. Whatever program you decide to use, print and read and outline past bar exam questions that are posted on SBLE's website. Compare your outlines to the model answers. This is so, so crucial. I didn't do this at all the first time I sat for another jx, and really regret it. There's so much overlap with past questions. Themis essays and essay graders are good, but you can gain so much from studying real past questions and model answers. Also, start off using Themis's MBE stuff in interactive mode (correct and wrong answers explained after each question), but by the end of prep you want to be practicing every day with MBE questions in test mode. This is another thing I didn't do the first time around, and on the actual MBE I was exhausted not getting that break where you stop and read the explanation. I know it sounds silly but towards the end of prep you want to be practicing with slews of questions without any reinforcement. Good luck!

I second Em_Banc 100%!!!Em_Banc wrote:Also failed the first bar exam I ever took, and just passed MD first try. I really changed the way I studied this time, and used Themis both times. Em_Banc, I think you're right, we are the same person.

I used Themis and highly recommend it. The first time, I watched all of the videos (on regular speed) and felt very comfortable with black letter law. I also did about 900 MBE questions and felt good about it. I didn't have time to write out too many essays and didn't think it was necessary because I had done well on my law school exams. I failed with an above average MBE score. I had only actually wrote out 3 essays, so when I got to the exam, I did not manage my time well at all. It led to a disaster. I wrote way too much on the first couple of essays of both the AM and PM sessions and ended up not being able to write too much on the last couple of AM and PM essays. I knew I failed when I walked out of the exam. Second time, I watched all of the videos again, on 2x speed. I practiced MBE questions as suggested by Em_Banc above, and did 2 essays each day for the last 3 weeks. On exam day, I felt great about most of the essays, but most importantly, I had enough time to give all of them a fair try.
Good luck if you are taking a future bar exam.

Does anybody know when we can expect to receive our MBE scores? I need to find out if I can waive into DC?

Question for you Feb Bar Takers - when you applied for the Bar and sent in your materials, do you recall how long it took for them to go from just 'hard copies received' to 'accepted and here's your bar exam seat/location info'?

I got a 146 MBE (received my letter yesterday). Anyone know about the process of waiving into DC?

It takes them a few weeks to process your application and mark it accepted. Everyone gets their seat number at the same time. I think for July, I received mine the first week of July.Capitol_Idea wrote:Question for you Feb Bar Takers - when you applied for the Bar and sent in your materials, do you recall how long it took for them to go from just 'hard copies received' to 'accepted and here's your bar exam seat/location info'?

Does anyone who took the Feb bar and used Barbri have the Maryland Essay Testing book? If so, are you willing to let me use it to study for the July bar? Trying to improve my Feb score since I did not pass it!

I was told you need a 133 on the MBE to waive into DC and I think it takes a year; but I could be wrong on the latter.waitingonresults wrote:I got a 146 MBE (received my letter yesterday). Anyone know about the process of waiving into DC?

Did anyone in MD pass the Feb bar and is still waiting for C&F results?
