You can do this. Co-clerk failed so I have to tutor and carry her.

I failed twice. First two times were the old format. First time I scored awfully got like a 100 on mbe. Second time I failed by one point. This time around, with a new test, which was more depressing and difficult to accept that I had to take a new test, I squeaked by with a 277. I was working full-time. It can certainly be done. I slacked off during law school and bar prep each time, and am a terrible test taker. It's a shitty feeling right now, but it can be done.

Springwater -- I took the bar while working full time. Just make sure you take 2 - 3 weeks off beforehand to cram. I found working fulltime made my studying MUCH more efficient. I studied very hard from 6pm to midnight every night, and that was enough time to successfully pass. Something about studying, and only studying, makes for very inefficient time usage, IMO. You can do it.

You guys are awesome - I started copying and pasting quotes but it was just too much.
Thanks for all of your support. I really appreciate it, especially since all I've seen so far is people posting they passed on Facebook and texts setting up times to meet for celebratory drinks. I know I eventually have to tell them, but for now, I just can't, so it really helped to see all of your positive messages. It's frustrating as hell but I'm trying my best to keep my chin up. I think I'll suck it up and register to retake as soon as the application opens so I don't have the option of backing out. Any advice for cranking up that MBE score?
In case you were wondering, I did Themis the first time (80% completion), Barbri the second time (92% completion), and a combination of Barbri (90% completion) and Adaptibar (about an additional 700 questions) this last go-around.
PS: Can't move. I'm married and have kids, and we have a home in NYC. Uprooting my family because I don't want to retake the test again would be silly.

I know people have said this so many times already but I am truly amazed I passed. Left the ENTIRE secured transactions question blank. Not one rule. Not one word. Talking out of my ass for all the others except civ pro. The "Evidence" question - didn't even mention hearsay, or crim pro, didn't finish all the factors for the MPT and pretty sure my product was legally conclusory for both MPTs. Torts - didn't mention any market share like others were worried about - just the basic rules for neg and strict liability. Only one I was completely confident about was civ pro. The rest is just a blur.
MBE - I bubbled in my answers wrong and had to go back and re-bubble them in. I was pretty sure about 10-20 questions would be graded wrong and was preparing to submit a request for hand grading.
Congrats!!
I scored a 279 which I'm very happy with!! I don't plan on moving to Alaska!!
Scored a 136.4 on the MBE! So not great, but still got a pretty good score, I'd say! So writing portions must have helped, but I was sure I totally bombed the essays. MPT was my strongest point, even on previous bar I failed. Wish I could see a score breakdown!
I was sure I had failed. I read the email so many times to make sure it was real!! Over the moon!!!

I was so happy to see you passed. I know you had a tough journey!
Aww, thank you! I was happy to see you passed too!

also, for anybody curious about C&F:
I sent in my character and fitness beginning of October; got an email confirming receipt and to email my certification once I received it. I immediately forwarded it via email last night, and they confirmed receipt this morning and put my application in queue for review. They are on top of it. I recommend submitting your stuff! I, for one, want to be sworn in in January.

Because I thought I failed, I stopped working on my bar admissions applications... Now I have a lot of catching up to do... Getting old tax returns and speeding tickets.

Hope to get in my app by the end of next week. Do you think that would still mean being sworn in in January?

Luckily I have all my affidavits though! Hoping getting tickets and old job information won't take too long!

you don't need to submit tax forms and tickets with your application--I haven't gathered my speeding (or two underage drinking) tickets yet either. Submit first, gather after

Unfortunately I've had way more jobs than I can count, so I can't even remember some of the places I've worked at, which is why I need to get old tax returns! And I don't remember the details of my 4 speeding tickets to write down exactly when and where I got them. Do I need to be really precise with those?

Try not to worry. It is extremely frustrating to fail this exam but so many people do and it is not a reflection of ability, but some basic aptitude, a lot of hard work, and luck! Some of the best lawyers struggled to pass this exam. I failed twice under the old format and passed this time under the new format. You will get there. Just be persistent and never give up. For the MBE, buy and memorise the CriticalPass flashcards. These are concise and superb. They give you all of the law you will need for the MBE and for at least three (sometimes four) of the six essay questions. Also buy the BarMax previous MBE test questions which can be downloaded to an iPad or iPhone. This gives you 1571 now retired previous questions and answers but they are invaluable and if you cover all of these questions twice you will for sure pass the MBE. Do not worry if you find them difficult to start with. With practice every day you should eventually get 70% correct. Although the questions have been retired, there is only a limited number of ways the same points of law can be tested on the MBE and the questions you will see on the actual MBE will likely be very similar to the BarMax retired questions. The MBE BarMax questions only include 15 Civil Procedure questions but you can try using the BarBri Civil Procedure test MBE questions and make sure you know the CriticalPass cards for civil procedure inside out. For the essays, rely on the Barbri book for the non-MBE topics and make sure you know that material inside out. Always structure your essays using IRAC. Use the Barbri MPT book for trial MPTs and read the answers over and over again. Get a tutor and practice as many essay questions under timed exam conditions as possible, with at least ten essay attempts as your minimum target. The above will require some investment but it really will be worth it in the long run. Do all of this and you will I am sure pass next time. It is possible to pass this exam while working full time, but you will need to set aside time at least six days a week (a few hours each day) from now until the exam (with a couple of weeks off work completely before the exam). Do not let anything or anyone stray you from your path. Good luck! You can and will pass!

Congrats to everyone who passed the exam!
I have a general question - the score to pass in NY also passes NJ and Connecticut - since I am still looking for employment, would it be a good idea to transfer the score and gain admission to the bar in those states?
I'm hoping to practice in NYC, I guess I'm asking if this is a marketable skill? Worth the time/investment? Is anyone else thinking about doing this?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
