338, 160.6 (MBE)

Did somebody say they saw their essay and/or MPT scores? My MBE was good, but not wonderful, and I still passed very highly. MPT and MEE are very important, too, for those frustrated with the MBE. (what I mean is -- don't let the MBE make you feel defeated. It's hard for everybody! I'm fairly certain I got full points on both MPTs! it can make all the difference!)

You almost aced the essays, dang! 160 MBE is still in auto-pass territory for NY, you'd have to leave some blank to only get 106 on the MPT/MEE.

July 2016 NY Bar Results Out

Post by ok2bedifferent » Fri Oct 28, 2016 1:19 am

Thought it'd be more resourceful to create a separate thread for the July 2016 NY Bar Results.

To those who passed - CONGRATS!

To those who failed - Join the club; I studied for two weeks and managed to score a 248. I'm actually quite stoked  Seriously, don't let this be demoralizing or a reflection of how good you'll be as a lawyer. People have different circumstances (e.g., language barrier, bad test taker, full-time jobs, kids, etc.), I'm sure we'll get there one way or another. I deal with lawyers day in and day out and some are complete morons.

The winter UBE is harder than the summer. True/false?

I passed too! How did you find your essay scores for this year's bar exam?

Can share a bit of advice RE: scheduling and sources with (and probably also send materials to) anyone looking or needing to self-study next time around. I had to find a way while working full-time (licensed in TX last year).
Would love the advice. First attempt at New York and failed but passed New Jersey. I need to pass to New York.

I'm just going to sit here congratulating everyone because I can't get myself to go to sleep.

CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO PASSED! And those those who didn't, please keep your head up. Many of the most successful attorneys over the last few decades didn't pass on their first attempt. You'll get it on your next try! YOU GOT THIS!

3 time loser here... so devastated and thinking of throwing in the towel :(
Do NOT throw in the towel. I just passed on my fourth try. Eventually, you'll pass just because you've looked at the material so many times.

You have already passed the hardest part of the bar exam, which is the essays. That's the portion that most people (myself included) struggle with.

Boosting your MBE score is MUCH easier than boosting your essay score. To boost your MBE score, all you have to do is a bunch of practice questions. Despite what the people on this website say, you do NOT have to do a thousand practice questions - I did like 300 or 400 and I was good. In the last few weeks, do 50 a day (or 50 every other day, whatever) and you'll be fine.

You also don't need a fancy/expensive test prep service. I used Themis, which (of course) was the cheapest service.

My boss at my current job failed the bar before she passed. My boss at my last job (who is now in charge of a major part of the New York City government) failed twice before she passed, and barely scraped by the third time by spending more than 10 grand on a private tutor. You WILL pass.

I failed by three quarters of a point last time. Before NY adopted the UBE, you needed a scaled score of 665. I scored a 664 1/4. It looks like you were just a handful of points away this time. You will almost certainly pass next time because you already have a head start - you know enough material to pass 95% of the exam.

If it's any consolation, scoring above a 260 allows you to practice in certain states (e.g. Colorado, New Mexico), so in a sense you DID pass if you want to practice there. Otherwise just take the thing again and you'll pass. I know people who took this test five or six times before passing. Eventually you'll pass, period. TAKE THE BAR AGAIN.

But of course I went to sleep early the day they came out.
Passed with a 310!! MBE was 147.4. Cried like a baby when I found out.

PASSED! With a 309, 153 MBE. Got my MBE score up 49 points from the barbri midterm (not accounting for the scaling). Feels so surreal. So much for getting a good night sleep before work tomorrow!

They should be at the bottom of your letter.

Yep. And, for those of you who were unsuccessful, you will beat this exam in February. Take a weekend to yourself and let out your emotions. Then come back to this thread and read the countless stories of retakers who passed, and visualize how happy you'll be when that's you. Because it will be you. You've taken this before, and that experience will carry you to the pass list.

Foreign educated lawyer here (and a long time lurker). Passed with a 137.2 MBE! Feels so surreal.

Congratulations to all others who passed and my best wishes to those who didn't. I am sure your success is not far, and I will keep you in my prayers. Thanks you fellow TLS'ers!

307/156.6

Did Themis while working full-time over the summer. Studied a few hours per weeknight, crammed on weekends, and super-crammed the last two weeks.

The key, I think, is to condense everything into little memorizable cheat-sheets, and just memorize that and take as many practice exams as you can. I wouldn't bother going through all that other shit they give you (especially the lectures and outlines) as you won't learn anything by doing that.

Congrats to everyone who passed! Please consider posting in the thread below about real/practice MBE scores. It's very helpful to those still waiting and those considering a retake in February!

Good friend of mine (I saw his letter attachment) had a 350. Any chance he's the best score in the state?
