I had a burrito for lunch and boy was it delicious. On another note, I think we should all lube up in anticipation for results...just in case.

Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
In case anyone missed the "war of words" over the MBE portion of the July Bar:
Memo from NCBE stating the students who took the July 2014 Bar were "less able" and that's why scores are so low.
http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/ ... ermemo.pdf
And the response:
Dean of Brooklyn Law School Letter to NCBE, calling for a full investigation, stating: "In plain language, I disagree with you: It's not the students, it's the test.": http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/ ... rdmemo.pdf
Ugh. Well, glad I'm not the only one who thought those MBEs were like nothing before. Nothing like the ones I practiced with - from previous exams.

So does the lower MBE scores nationwide mean that essays will get a slightly lower "boost" that usual? In other words, do essays scores normally get a "bump" up due to a curve?

Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
Did the MBE ever respond to the deans letter. I suspect they did not... If they did I would love to see a copy of their response...
Their silence is deafening! Of coarse the test was harder. The simple translation of what they said is the test takers this year were stupider than last years test takers. I don't know about you, but that sounds like an insult to me...
That said, this is all the more reason Congress needs to act, and pass a national uniform bar act. It's past time to have an objective standard for all 50 states. It's past time give everyone a fair chance to practice were they want, and to have the test be what it was suppose to be all along. A test of minimal competence...

The dean's letter is dated yesterday. I think it's too soon to call the silence 'deafening'.catechumen wrote:Did the MBE ever respond to the deans letter. I suspect they did not... If they did I would love to see a copy of their response...

Yep, I figured while we're all playing the waiting game, I might as well post something to talk about. I'm pretty sure I won't feel like talking about anything after 6pm on the 21sta male human wrote:Drama! Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
I am in pure hell. Had to put my canine companion of 12 years to sleep last Monday. Yesterday was my bday. Had to sit for the CBX 14 years after graduating from law school and passing NY bar on the first try.
I already knew I blew the impeachment issue and the Rule 10b-5. But was still 50/50 on .whether I passed. After reading the issue lists in this thread I am now convinced I failed (present sense impression on Evidence Q?) And now this issue with the MBE mean scores now making the writing score needed to pass higher? Trying not to drive my husband crazy with my worrying. I am so scared and depressed

CA bar takers:
Have a non-bar-result related question: Is a speeding ticket considered as a misdemeanor in the moral character application in CA? I got two speeding tickets and paid the fines ($100-$200) 4 years ago. Don't remember what did the tickets say. So I chose "No" when I read the description of "conviction", and submitted the form. Then I was looking for my old driving record and saw those two speeding records.

Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
This depends on the state where you got the ticket. I had a speeding ticket in Wyoming, and all speeding tickets in Wyoming are misdemeanors. The CA Bar required me to get all the info and court docs from this tiny county in Wyoming. So I would look at the law of the applicable state.venusbbmm wrote:CA bar takers:

+1 I had to submit info from the state where I got a speeding ticket as well. Have you not heard back from C&F yet?FutureInLaw wrote:This depends on the state where you got the ticket. My thing is those are I think major issues for those questions (at least the impeachment and 10b-5 aissues) so precludes me from getting the 65 I needed on those two. But who knows how it will turn out.

Re: California Bar Exam (July 2014) thread
Hi - checking in here, this wait is torture. Anyway, 2oldfts, just wanted to say I'm in the same boat - took NY bar 8 years ago - found CA to be so much harder. I took the attorney's exam and now I'm wondering whether I should have taken the full 3 days with the MBE. I don't think the impeachment issue was a major one (it seemed like there were lots of parts to that question), and I know a lot of people missed 10b-5 so I think you're in better shape than you think. I screwed up the trusts/CP question, did not even recognize the resulting trust issue (and I think it was a major one). But still holding out hope. Hang in there.

I missed the resulting trust too. But I think you are OK. I think the big issues are it is a valid trust (do the test), and community property issues. I thought that if you get the big umbrella issues then you are usually not going to fail the essay.
I think that the Trusts/Estate and the Professional Responsibility essays are ones that will not determine our fate. Our fate lies in the other essays, the MBE (for me not you) and the PTs.

Do any of you think it is ok to assume that the scale will be similar to July 2013? I understand MBE scores are down nationwide, so I was under the impression that passing essay scores will be around 60-59 like it was July 2013. Thanks!jarofsoup wrote:jarofsoup wrote:NYtoCA wrote:Hi - checking in here, this wait is torture.
