Re: Barbri paced program question?
I have a question regarding the simulated test we're suppose to take tomorrow. How exactly does it work in terms of what to take when? So we have a simulated MBE book they mailed us for online course people which has 200 questions broken up into 100 each for morning and afternoon session. They have also posted 3 essays for us to do online as well. Are we supposed to do 100 each for three hours in the morning and afternoon? When do we take the essays? Does anyone know where instructions are posted, because (as you can tell), I'm lost.

Re: Barbri paced program question?
The document online that has the essays in it has an instruction sheet. Basically you're doing two essays (available in that document) and one MPT, for which you must bring the MPT book. The simulated MBE is at a later date.TLSNYC wrote:I have a question regarding the simulated test we're suppose to take tomorrow. How exactly does it work in terms of what to take when? Re: Barbri paced program question?
So today I had my first bar prep meltdown. I ordered past bar exam essay questions and "copies of high scoring representative answers" from the board of bar examiners. All of the essay questions are longer than most barbri questions and all of the answers look almost perfect.
I am having a really hard time keeping up with the paced program while also making and/or reviewing flashcards. How are other people getting it all done? I am only making flash cards for the commonly tested essay subjects, but it still takes me 4 plus hours. I have the critical pass flash cards for the MBE subjects, but just adding my own notes to those takes forever.
End rant.

Even better news: you don't have to write an exam that qualifies as a "high scoring" exam to pass the bar.
I'm going through this too, so obviously take my thoughts with a grain of salt, but I think you should do what you think will work best for you and not rigidly adhere to Barbri's paced program if you don't think it is the best way for you to learn the material.

Re: Barbri paced program question?
I haven't started making flash cards yet. I bought the critical pass flash cards but haven't looked at them yet. It sounds like you are doing more work than barbri assigns, so there is no need to worry.lalala21 wrote:So today I had my first bar prep meltdown. Re: Barbri paced program question?
All I can say is I commiserate, and I'm doing the same thing. I feel like I just need to learn the essay stuff well enough to hit median or slightly below and really focus on MBE. I'm also doing flashcards but right now I'm only doing flashcards of the MBE topics.lalala21 wrote:So today I had my first bar prep meltdown. But I'm not even trying to keep up with the paced program. I'm skimming the Conviser more than carefully reading it at this point. Just doesn't seem like best ROI

Re: Barbri paced program question?
I completed 66 or 67% and I passed by a lot. Not NY, but I got a 173 on the MBE. I didn't finish all of the Barbri questions in the MPQ1 and 2, and I definitely didn't do any extra MBE questions. I was really worried about not doing everything, but in the end it worked out. I'd recommend just doing what works best for you. I never made flashcards, so I didn't start for the bar. But I've always written my own outlines, so I did that for the state subjects. I think it all depends on how you learn.Helpful wrote:On a separate note, I don't know if this is the best thread to ask this, but can people who have passed the bar talk about what percentage of the paced program they completed? I've spoken to people who said they only completed 60-70% and passed and am just curious what TLSers would have to say. (NY bar in my case, but other bars too if you wish.)

For those currently enrolled, we only have one MPQ book, correct?forty-two wrote:I completed 66 or 67% and I passed by a lot. Not NY, but I got a 173 on the MBE. I only have one, don't know if it varies from state to state though.
Sidenote: Is it just me or are these StudySmart questions often badly written with badly written answers?

They are largely the same questions as those in the book, so no, it's not just you.jd20132013 wrote:I only have one, don't know if it varies from state to state though.

Re: Barbri paced program question?
Remembered seeing this last week. Just finished this set and wanted to confirm. It had it all: answers resulting from subjective judgments; long, convoluted questions; and obscure rules of law. I didn't really retain anything because I was so irritated while taking it.LAWYER2 wrote:jarofsoup wrote:Maybe I am retarded, but has anyone found that Crim Law/Crim Pro MPQ 2 exists in a world outside of the CMR or the lecture. Re: Barbri paced program question?
Do you remember what you scored on the Simulated MBE when you took it? The Barbri guy said the 30,000 people that took it last year got an average of 112, but on the MBE, the average actual score was 144. So I wonder if you also saw about a 30 point increase fro Simulated to your actual 173?forty-two wrote:I completed 66 or 67% and I passed by a lot. Not NY, but I got a 173 on the MBE. I thought Chemerinsky did MS con law for barbri? I'm irrationally upset that he's not.

I watched his video for MS Con - don't be upset. He was a horribly slow speaker, and it was painful to get through even at 1.75 speed.jd20132013 wrote:I thought Chemerinsky did MS con law for barbri? I'm irrationally upset that he's not.

My lecturer was Joseph Thai. Just starting now, so who knows, maybe he'll be great.

I think I got a 132, or something around there. So my score went up about 40 points.pkt63 wrote:Do you remember what you scored on the Simulated MBE when you took it? What do you think was most helpful in those three weeks in raising that score? You said you made outlines for the state subjects, but how did you increase your MBE score? Just the assigned practice questions?forty-two wrote:I think I got a 132, or something around there. Also, did you find that your "percentile rank" in the Barbri system accurately reflected your eventual percentile rank on the real thing?

I find diagrams work for this. Same with easements. Since I've started doing this, I hope for mortgages and recording rules. Maybe try that?ph14 wrote:I'm okay at property, but all the mortgage and recording rules are pretty killer.LAWYER2 wrote:At the Drive-In wrote:Just ripped off a staggering 11/25 on the Real Property Workshop.
